Received two units of blood a few days after surgery, can't say I felt any different but it brought the blood levels up to where they wanted them. Nick

Jim, Great choice in surgeons... Dr. Bavaria did an AVR redo and CABG on me in January and I haven't look back since. He and his staff are awesome, I would trust what they tell you. They are so busy down there at HUP you can be assured that they are not just looking for work. Good luck. Nick

At the time of the poll I had a homograft and had experienced no afib and did not need to take coumadin. It lasted less than 10 years as severe regurgitation required a redo. This time with a carbomedics mechanical and I will be on coumadin for ever. Nick

I received a finger prick every hour for the first 3 days or so post-op then once it stabilized a bit the frequency was about once every four hours. My understanding is that by maintaining your glucose levels within a tight range it helps your body with the healing process. Nick

Marguerite, My scar is about 7.5 inches long, was told that they used staples because I was a redo. Does anyone have any good lotions or ointments or whatever to help with the healing of the scar? My visiting nurse recommended I use vitamin E oil. Nick

Had the staples (33 of them) removed from my incision today... it feels soooo much better now. I know it is a silly little thing but for me it is another step down the road. Simple pleasures! Nick
