    A poll for Bicuspid people

I want to do a small sampling to see if there is a pattern. Hold your fingers up like you are doing a boy scout salute (first 3 fingers) then look at the pointer finger and the finger closest to your pinkie and answer the poll.

How long after you were told you needed a valve?

I was told I needed it around Memoriial Day 2006 and had it at the end of July 2006. I did however have the knowledge for some 47 years that I would eventually need a valve replacement.

    muscle pain from statins use

having taken 3 different kinds of statins all with the same gut wrenching pain I just swore off Statins. since I figure my cholesterol is under 200 (192) and my triglyceride level is about 75 I figure I am ok. Sure my bad numbers are a tad high and my good number a bit low, but it seems that...

How do you know it's time?

I didn't know I had an aneurysm. I had palpitations, and felt faint at times, then it got to where when I looked up into the sky my balance was disturbed. I always knew I would need surgery again after having it done at age 5, I told my wife to make an appointment and not to let her talk me out...

How many have had multiple OHS?

I have had 2 surgeries. I was lucky enough to spread them out a few years between, like 47 years worth. So as far as the 2nd surgery it does not seem to me that it was any more difficult than the first one, but then I was only 4 going on 5 the first time.

Anybody heard this before- Antibiotics before a teethcleaning

I have always had to take them before dental work. Back a long time ago I had to take them for 10 days prior and 10 days afterwards! Taking 4 an hour before is no bother for me.

    Weight gain??

I went in at 168#. I weighed 190# the afternoon of the following day. Food was terrible for a long time, 2 months I would guess. At that point I was down to 153#. Since I have gained all of it back and then some, I weight 10# more than I did before surgery now. But that has been going on 3 years...

    I'm home again!

Getting the taste thing out of your mouth may take some time, it was well over a month for me before food started to taste, well, like food. I lost 25# in that time. Nothing tasted right especially beef, pork was closest to normal, but even it was not that great. I never had any pains around the...

Just can't get back to par

for me it was 6 months before I felt strong enough to play golf., but it was a full year before I really felt back to normal. Remember your sternum won't be healed till around 12 weeks. 5 weeks you are not expected to feel great yet. They tell you no work for 8 weeks for a reason! Doc wouldn't...

Brunoandbear's avr is Monday, April 6

You can't go wrong with Dr. Chen. He is very good. As for Emory you have to love private rooms and pull out beds for the wife to stay in the room. plus if you have a laptop with WIFI its in the room for free as well. Just don't let those nurses yell at you when you start walking. One yelled at...

    My historic day 50th valvsaversary

Thanks to all who responded. In the late 50s this sort of stuff was not the norm it is today, and to have a surgeon that put his reputation on the line to operate on a poor sickly child I can only say thanks to Dr. Conrad Lam, a true pioneer in open heart surgery, who I did have an opportunity...

    Lipitor reaction?

I treid 2 different statins. I had a bad reaction to both. The 2nd time it was so bad I could hardly stand up from pain in my abdomen. I quit taking it and it still took a couple days before I returned to normal. So I just tell my Doc, no more statins, I will take my chances with my cholesteral...
