When is it time to worry about hitting your head?

Hi. Let me tell you, I've been there. Numerous hits to the head of varying degrees. I have not had any brain bleeds including the time my son hit me full force in the face with a toy sword that caused internal bleeding in my eye. I've been doing this for almost a decade now and I've had lots...

    Insanity Workout

Hi. I've done this program about 1.5 times and sporadically here and there. The workouts are great. They are very cardio intense. There is also a fair amount of push-up work in there. My only hesitation would be if I had knee issues. Otherwise it's pretty good. My rule of thumb is that I...

    Anyone had this one before?

Thanks for the replies. Lyn, I had been doing P90x and Insanity and have been off of it for months. Very depressing. Jeff, agreed on the 90% healed angle. Back in Feb. I was almost back and then I somehow reinjured. What a mess. I've never seen an injury like this before and hope I never...

    Anyone had this one before?

Hi All. Curious to get your feedback on this one. I pulled/strained/tore/who knows a muscle in my hamstring area back in late Jan. I had a nice sized hematoma/bleed. By mid-Feb. the hematoma disappeared and things looked to be getting better. A couple of days later with little warning, I got...

Using Bodyweight Exercises/Interval Training to Replace Weight Training

Hi All. Just a FYI. We've had a couple of discussion recently re. strength training and the limitations that some cardios suggest. I've been researching the effectiveness of bodyweight training for adding muscle and burning fat. There are a couple of good books. The one I'm a big fan of is...

    OK, a ridiculous question...but,,,

Hi. I agree that asking the cardio is a good idea. My experience is that all is ok as long as you minimize isometric exercises where you strain a bunch and crank up the blood pressure. I've never been told to avoid bag work. Just don't let the bag hit back. T

Maximum bloodpressure - strength training after AVR

Great question. I don't have an answer, but am curious to hear what others say. I've had this same question myself and posted recently re weight lifting restrictions.

Aneurysym and Post-Op Weight Lifting Restriction Question

Hi. For those of you who have had valve replacement and aneurysm repair, please share your answers to the following questions: What is the maximum amount of weight you use when lifting weights? Do you have restrictions on body weight exercises, such as pull ups and push ups? Back in April I...

    P90x

Glad to see this thread. I finished my first round of P90x 2 weeks ago and am now doing a second round of P90x. I was not impressed with P90x+ and will just do a second round of P90x. My big change is that I'm replacing yoga X with Tony's 1 on 1 Fountain of Youth Yoga. This one is only 45...

Brain Fog? Could it be beta blockers? Anxiety?

Hi. I was on Atenolol for some time and had all of the symptoms that you are describing (still do to an extent). They were no fun to say the least. However, it sounds like your son really has Marfan syndrome, so these may be a necessity for him. I like to take the big picture approach to this...

Low Platelet Count and Mechanical Valve

Thanks!!! Thanks!!! Hi All. Thanks for the speedy replies. I received my valve in 2005, but it is one of the older St. Jude models (whichever one has been around for 15-20 years and is considered super reliable--Master's Series or Regent I think). I will update everyone tomorrow when my 2nd...

Low Platelet Count and Mechanical Valve

Hi. I found out today that my platelet count was 98,000 which is sort of low. My doc said that this is probably due to the mechanical aortic valve that I have. Has anyone heard of this before? He had the lab do another blood test this morning and I am still waiting for the results. I am very...

    Home Monitoring Rules!!!!

Hi All. I'm now in week 2 of home monitoring. Granted it took me about 4 strips to figure out how to get the blood in the right way. However, I'm now sticking and testing like a pro. This is truly a great thing. It is probably not for everyone, but I am very pleased. My equipment is through...

    Thumping won't go away

Hi Coco. I had the same surgery and I could hear that thumping too. The Dr. told me it was caused by the tubing that replaced my aorta. I think it is made out of velour or something. He told me it was no problem. I tend to notice it more when I take a very deep breath or my heart rate is high.

The ethics of procreation and heritable cardiovascular defects

BAV and Kids BAV and Kids Hi Folks. Here's my 2 cents. I have BAV with aortic aneurysm and had a Bentall procedure to fix the valve and the aorta. We saw a genetics person and she told us our kid would have a 25-50% chance (I forget the exact number) that our kid would have the problems that...
