    Light Sensitivity (bright sun/flourescent lighting)

Hi, I had not heard about the heart lung machine setting off ocular migranes. the interesting thing is that I stopped getting migraine headaches after my surgery, what an unexpected relief. I do suffer slightly from the migraine now and then but nothing like prior to the surgery. Ocular...

Hi epstns, interesting thought but I take no meds at all. I do have a heart rate monitor I use for my winter training. I am going to use it on my next ride. thanks for the input.

    Light Sensitivity (bright sun/flourescent lighting)

I have had the same issues as Paleogirl spoke with the doc and cardiologist they don't know what to make of it. Personally I think I need to stay hydrated and that helps, also some foods like chocolate are triggers. Interesting problem as the cardiologist told me he doesn't know that there is a...

    Feeling remarkably calm

Yes and sorry to say I had a lot of pain but it does pass. Glad to hear you are calm sounds like the perfect attitude. Let the docs and nurses can do the worrying for you that is why they are there.

    lack of power cycling

Hi I am a recreational cyclist and usually ride a couple of races every year. My question is that I constantly get dropped on climbs I am 6-1 and 175 lbs so not a small rider. Wondering if it is related to my heart issues or if I am just not working hard enough? maybe the "fatigue" is all in my...

    10 years

Hi all, it is hard to believe that 10 years have passed since my operation. the docs tell me everything is normal so that is good. I am doing better than ever imagined as I figured once they opened me up like humpty dumpty they wouldn't be able to put me back together again. . I am over 50 and...

I can't believe it, (actually) 9 years already. Thanks to all who supported me through the time before and after my surgery. Best wishes and warm regards to all, John apologies I couldn't figure out how to edit the post title.. I woke up thinking it had been 10 years but soon realized my math...

    My AVR surgery Sept 14th

You will get through this and with a little good fortune should be better for it. We all know how tough the wait is, let the docs do what they do very well, they will look after you. Best wishes.

    9 years

Wow it was 9 years ago on August 12th, first time the anniversary slipped my mind. I guess that is a good thing. Thanks to my doctors, and the hospital staff I am still around to raise my kids. Best wishes to all those who may be in line for surgery. God bless.

Surgery Tomorrow 2-6-12 - Aortic graft and replacing BAV with mechanical valve

Best wishes with the surgery, I think you are correct in that you have to be mindful of what the docs are telling you, on the other hand at one point you have to try to relax (ha!) and be the patient. Hopefully you can feel confident in your care and focus on your recovery. You should feel...

    1st Century

HI my G.P tells me I have to exercise, I feel a bit tentative at times as I think my heart can not go as hard as the rest of my body. Might be my mind playing tricks on me. Thanks everyone for the feedback. regards, J

I can see my surgery date on my profile, not sure why it would not be visible to others. I will try and add it to my signature thanks!

I have limited knowledge but usually knee strain is a result of a seat that is too high or too low, you can look it up on line. Generally a very small adjustment can make a difference, even 1/8". Good luck in the future keep on riding!

    1st Century

I wasn't planning on it but I rode my first 100 miler yesterday, finished in 5 hours 8 minutes. The ride was a fund raiser. At any rate, not trying to brag but I am pretty happ at 52 post surgery to be able to do this. Next week a 50 miler up and down the local escarpment, this one is a race...

    8 yrs and cycling

I had to laugh at Ray's suggestion. On the other hand I really don't ask too many questions just to be fair to the doc. but then he says something like 'well you may not always be good" and walks out the door whilst I am digesting that. What I do know is that I feel pretty good most days and it...

    8 yrs and cycling

Hi Michelle, actually I trust my cardiologist and give him the benefit of spending several decades in the medical field. I prefer not to know too much but I am at the point where I will need a few questions answered next time I see him. I hear what you are saying though, if I am wondering maybe...

    8 Years

Hi, Surgery 8 years ago today, wow! The days leading up to the operation were tough as anyone on this site can tell you. I remember leaving my son at his Aunties house and wondering if I would ever see him again. (I will admit I was a little frightened) Here I am 52 and trying to be an athlete...
