Lisa in Katy

I remember we had a thread on movies a while back, but haven't seen one lately. For our anniversary, my husband and I went to a movie that was great. It had been recommended to me by two women I work with - somewhere between a shoot em up and save the world movie and a chick flick.

Anyway, it is called Gran Torino and stars Clint Eastwood. Sorry, Cort, it's a Ford, but I think you would enjoy it anyway! Laughs, tears, and a good story.

Justin and I both liked that movie, I was sad at the end, but it had to end that way and it was a good movie

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

We also saw Slumdog Millionaire. It was much too violent for me, but it did keep my attention.

For anyone who doesn't mind a "chick-flick" the last really good movieI saw is called P.s. I LOVE YOU. My sister-in-law has the dvd. This one made me laugh and cry over and over again.

We saw Valkyrie shortly after Christmas -- probably old news by now. I couldn't stay awake, but when I did wake up, it was hard to listen to the movie because of all the other snoring around me.

Saw Gran Torino, Curious Case of Benjamin Button and also Taken. I actually liked "Taken" the best, great actor (Liam Neeson).. Benjamin Button was very different, and I liked that, but was very drawn out and wasn't as good as I hoped it would've been.. just my opinion ;)

I heard today from the same person that recommended Gran Torino that she saw Taken over the weekend and she agreed that it was very good.

Has anyone seen He's Just Not That Into You? (or something like that). It definitely looks like a chick flick, but has lots of good people in it.

Speaking of chick flicks...who remembers this old one-"Crimes of The Heart"
which was orig a play. Diane Keaton, Lang, and Spacek. I usually don't go
for this type..but this one sticks out in my mind as hilarious.
I'm more into thriller/susp/mystery/horror and offbeat art.

I actually ordered an ancient classic the other day.."Quatermass and the Pit"
from the 50's. One of my favorite vintage sci-fis. Does ANY one remember
this one(?),cuz the theory/philos behind the movie is superb.

Haven't sen any new ones lately tho.

Oldie and fascinating ...............

Oldie and fascinating ...............

There was nothing else on TV so I watched a re-run of the Da Vinci Code. It was a pleasant surprise and I'm eagerly anticipating the prequel.

Saw it as a movie but I guess I didn't get it. Superb story, excellently done by Ron Howard.

From previous comments I'll look up Gran Torino too.

That movie was a real STINKER!. I waited for its release cause since my husband and I were both stationed in Berlin, we wanted to see how many areas they had used for filming. Struck out on all swings. And how unbelieveable can you get. Nazi characters with British or American accents. We walked out about half way through the movie.

We did Lisa a couple of weeks ago. Wouldn't sit through it again though.. Yep, definitely a chick flick. How that lame script attracted those actors was beyond my comprehension.

Now on the list: Australia, Doubt and The Reader..

My mom and my step-dad saw this the other day.. she said it was a chick flick for sure and that my step-dad wasn't that crazy about it.. They also saw "Independent" and she said she hated it.. she said it was a ton of action with shooting, fighting, etc.. I bet my step-dad liked it though, lol.. I'm not really into those type of movies either..

Great movie. Also known as "20 Million Years to Earth". It's got everything from space creatures to demons to good vs evil. I also love "First Men in the Moon" and another obscure film: "Robinson Crusoe on Mars".

I Loved Seven Pounds and Slumdog Millionaire.
And I agreee that P.S. I Love you is fantastic, trying to get a copy of it at the moment as i missed the first 3 minutes when I taped it.
Off to see Bolt this week with my nine year old. Will let you know.
He says Moonacre was great

I've seen 20 Million Years three or four times...what caused the extinction of the *grasshopper* Martians?

I think 20 Million Years is the U.S. version of the English "Quatermass".
The English version is over 3 hours long and was a BBC production.
I just love the theories put forth re the 'hive' mind and how it compares to
some of our more, negative traits while at the same time strengthens us.
If you like "20 Million" you should take a look at "Quatermass and the Pit"
the original 57 version

I'd be interested to know what you think of "Australia" Janie. We thought it was a better movie than the critics did.
