Curtsmum

After Curts surgery he got put on captopril 3 times a day for high bp. I know this is probably a question for the docs but were not back untill march. Was just wondering if anybody else suffered high bp after surgery and wether they have to take medication long term. Thanks

Oh yeah, I've been on BP meds for a long long time. Is it something that he had before surgery or they just didn't notice it until after?

Whats weird with me (No comments from the peanut gallery) is that before my stomach bleed, my pressures were 150/90 to 160/100 even on meds. After the bleeding episode, they constantly remained 90/60 or there abouts.

He had no problems before surgery, after surgery bp was too low, he had a small blood transfution then it was too high and they put him on medication.
Guess i need to start asking more questions as they never told us how high and i didn't think to ask at the time.
Does it always seem to be long term or as any one been taken off the meds. They mentioned on our next check-up, that they may take him off furosemide but not the captopril.

Usually yes, long term, maybe even for life. He's going to be one of those strange ones. Did he suffer any kidney damage during surgery? The problem is, there are so many things that may be triggers for HBP that it's almost never discovered.

It's probably not much consolation, but I was diagnosed with and medicated for hypertension at about 20 years old. Every time I went to see a doctor, they said "Huh... you're pretty young for that, arentcha?"

Thanks for the replys. No nothing was mentioned about kidney damage.
After his first surgery sugar was found in his blood and nobody knew why but they never mentioned it again. Hope it doesn't get any stranger when he has his 3rd surgey.

My sugar level and BP went way up after my surgery. I was put on insulin injections twice a day while at the hospital. I was told this was my body's reaction to the trauma of the surgery. By the time I left the hospital, my blood was sugar free.:)

As for BP, I was put on a small dose of Lisinopril which was stopped after a few weeks, and 12 mg Coreg twice a day which has been lowered to 6.25 mg twice a day.

My prayers to all.

Thanks Eva, always wondered what the sugar was but as he was so ill at the time i never got around to asking. After they rehydrated he just seemed to get better.
