I was approved last year under different insurance, but w/all the deductible mess, I was still going to have to pay $2500 for the thing. New insurance now, so I re-applied and found out from the nurse at the coumadin clinic that I was approved. They were checking with her to see if she'd train me. When I called QAS to find out any details, the guy basically couldn't tell me anything yet (???) so I'm waiting for the call and crossing my fingers that my portion is low this time!

Great news Halley!! I'm still in the waiting period to hear about recieving my own INR machine too.
They said that my insurance would cover most everything even the strips. I hope to hear soon too, hoping after the holidays.
Good Luck with your approval too.:)

Congratulations. I have been home testing now for 4 weeks and it is great. No more running to labs, no more being stuck 2-4 times before they can get a sample. I just wake up in the morning, do the test, call in the results and thats it! Simple. My cardiologist calls me later that day with any needed adjustments.

how much?

how much?

are you being supplied with a gold plated home tester? $2500 seems steep considering my coaguchek was us$400 approx inc 12.5 % tax.

ok, i am at the other end of the world, and maybe i am all wrong, but from reading many posts it seems the usa insurance co price, to which the consumer makes a contribution, seems to be up to double what the consumer pays if they buy it themselves when they seem to get a big discount...

so the impression i get is that the insurance company price seems to be a "jack up"

i dunno what QAS is, but i get the impression that it is some sort of beaureaucratic organisation which should be given the flick if at all possible. QED?

There are many different insurance companies, and one plan with one company can differ from employer to employer. The insurance we were on back then, there was a very high deductible. Yes, we were paying for the insurance, but until you met the deductible, you had to pay out of pocket. Hence the $2500 price tag on what they charge for the machine. I was approved but had not met the deductible, so still had to pay out of pocket until the deductible was satisfied. When I graduated college and first started working, I could never understand the deductible. Now I get it. It really stinks, but when you don't have any control over the plan except to find a new company with a better policy, that's what happens. Lucky you for getting your machine at a low price! Still crossing my fingers and waiting to hear back.

Hi Halley!
Congratulations on your home testing machine! You will enjoy the ability to test at home at your leisure, and can better monitor changes in diet, etc. If you have any quesions, the comadin clinic can help you transition into home testing.
I have been using INRation for over a year, and I have been able to manage my INR level nicely. Good luck, Halley!

WOO-HOO!

Good for you! No more labs!

I only paid $500, no insurance, for my Coaguchek (Roche) here in Canada. List price was $1000,but Roche were offering $500 rebata coupons, which I got in the mail from them.
