In a time when people are easily offended by various things, prompting "political correctness" and lawsuits and protests, it's kinda funny that cuss words seem to be more and more "accepted" as the norm, rather than the exception, due to radio, TV, etc....

Interesting article, imho:

"Remember that fat boy, bring that kid, if you want to see New Year's Eve" ... Mona Abboud (native/resident, Sleepy Hollow IL) ... 'The Pretty Little Dolly'

This was a consideration that factored into the decision to send our granddaughter to parochial school rather than public.

Right, bad language has no place on daytime, or evening TV. If the late movie happens to have the odd swear word used, that is really not a big deal.
What bothers me with TV is that you can have something like "The Family Guy" cartoon on during the weekend afternoons when it's highly likely that some youngsters might be tuning in while Mom is busy making dinner. Not good. That show crosses all lines.
And of course it runs back to back with "The Simpsons"....but at least they are animated, and we can emphasize that they are "pretend" shows.

How about CSI being on at 7:00 or 8:00pm when many youngsters are still up?
There's nothing like some good, wholesome, smashed in skulls, blood and guts, to keep a kid awake at night.
Disconnect the satellite and antenna, and stock up on some really great DVDs!

It really doesn't matter what is on, or when. It is up to the parents to make sure they know what their kids are watching. Since most households have cable or a dish, porn is available 24 hours a day. My system still has parental controls activated and my kids are 16 and 18!

When I was teaching 1st grade, I had a parent yell at me because I told her child that he shouldn't be watching Scream, an R rated movie with lots of scary scenes. My response was because the child was telling me how she couldn't sleep the night before, woke up crying, etc., after watching the movie.

I can't even get myself to watch CSI because of the the blood & gore!

TV has gone to the dogs! There is so much profanity, gore, distasteful commercials, such as "Bob, the guy w/erectile dysfunction" ---- how do you explain this to your little nephew or grandchild ---- Granny/Auntie, what is "erectile dysfunction??" I remember cringing when watching TV w/my folks & a commercial for feminine products came on!!!

The Potty Mouth is JUST unneccesary!!!! :(

Talk about a potty mouth......about a week ago, they had a Celebrity roast for the host (can't remember his name right now) of America's Funniest Videos & one of the celebrities was Cloris Leachman......man, I'll tell you, that little old lady has some mouth on her! They bleeped the words she used, but there was no denying what the words were!

And I'm not trying to come on like I'm Mother Teresa or anything; I'm guilty of using pretty colorful language at times too, my DH can attest to that, it's just that I think profanity is becoming the "norm" on TV.

Obviously you haven't observed your children dissecting the wild life around you huh? Blood and guts is mere child's play to them. :D

I used to think that my daughter was a little strange when she enjoyed blood and guts on TV....now she is a Registered Nurse.
And I'm the one who gets disturbed by guts and slaughter; OHS is kinda cool though!

I'm no dummy, and I totally agree that parents control what is watched....my point is that why do we need all that garbage on TV to start with.

Unfortunately because there are many in this world who call this entertainment.

I don't watch TV sitcoms any more. Are they really filled with a lot of "colorful" language?

Jim,

As evidenced by others' responses ... sadly, the answer is yes to that.

Another reason why I don't watch as much TV as I used to.....

*sighs*
