there is one in our town. They give out quite a bit of food, including vegs and meat. Once a month and there is enough food to last more than the week you spoke of. Maybe a month.

Our church also gives out free food once a month on a Saturday so most can pick it up. It's a Methodist church but available to everybody. Maybe some in other churches, too. Just check it out.

I used to distribute free commodities via govt program and as far as I know it's still available via counties. Qualifying is needed for this one.

Out of curiosity I did some quick calculations of the normal costs for the October menu. Using sale prices to get the lowest number, the cost would be around $57 if you bought it at the store. This is a great service for folks who have the time to order and pick up the food.

Thanks, Ross, I will pass this along.

I'm trying to figure out why I never heard of them before?

I believe their publicity is more Word of Mouth than anything. I had heard of them, but had been involved at all until last year. We even bought from them a couple of months; many of the volunteers order.

Cooker: FYI....this isn't exactly diet food, so beware; it's good, but not low cal/carb.

Gina: It really is a good deal. The church I volunteered for also donated unclaimed boxes to senior citizens. Also, people signed to buy boxes for the elderly and the poor.

I am passing this info along to my mom so she can pass it along to the people who live in her Senior Community. They are all low income and I know they can use the help. Maybe if they don't need so much food they can even go in together and order and split it.

I know a few families that have used them for years and really like them. There never was one close to us, but one of the people i passed this on to a couple years ago father was a minister so started up doing this at his church, unfortunately it was not near us.

editted to say yeah Ross, I'm glad you posted, there are alot more now and one close to us :)

This sounds like a great program...

This sounds like a great program...

However, I checked the pickup locations, and unfortunately there is only one place in MN. Claremont looks like its probably about a 2 hour drive (one way) for us, so considering the gas prices, would probably not really be worth it.

Hopefully, they'll expand to other areas eventually.

See if some churches in your area wouldn't mind becoming a host. Problem solved if one of them would.

I sure wish we had one of these in NH

I am going to mention this to my minister at Church as I am kind of surprised that since alot of Methodist Churches in other areas host AngelFood, why the ones in my area haven't heard of them. I will certainly pass this on to them. Harrybaby:D :D

Angel Food Ministries

Angel Food Ministries

Thought I would bump this up for those that may have missed it last time around. Our church has been a distribution point for this for several years now. I was talking to our chairperson other night and she said she has been surprised about the lack of knowledge about this program. Those that know anything about the program think it is some type of low income based program. Anyone that has the money to purchase a package can participate and most participating churches have persons that ?donate? packages for distribution at no cost to the individual or family.

Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, can participate. Ross, you can even pick up your food package in your LIMO!!!!

Check out the site and see if there is a participating distribution point near you. If so, give them a try. If not, see about getting your church or organization involved.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and

May God Bless,

Danny :)

Thats so odd Ross..I was just at the post it board at my apt. building putting up the article about this. The local paper had a very nice piece about them. Its just down the road from me and I never knew it exisited. What a wonderful thing! The web site has the menu for the month and you can even reserve it online.

I just got a letter saying I would get an increase on my SSI,,which means my food stamps go down accordingly..you cant get ahead.

My brother was forced into bankruptcy and he and his wife made use of Angelfood. Sure, it's not high quality, but it's definately worth the money.

Hi Ross ~ I've used Angel Ministries several times in the last couple years. It's very good food and at a cost of about 1/3 of what it would cost to get this amount of food at the supermarket. A lot of people in my apartment complex (who all have some sort of disability) use it. It's a blessing that they have this.
