We are in the midst of a winter ice storm which seems to be pretty bad. I went to bed, but the sound of trees falling and branches breaking just wouldn't stop. Ice has covered everything and it will probably continue on until morning.

So far, all my trees are standing, I think, it's too dark to see everything. But I may have some large branches down. The neighbors sound like they have had several trees fall.

The house is surrounded with huge trees. I think they are thick enough and strong enough to take this kind of weather, but they may lose some big branches from high up.

Fortunately, I had some tree trimming done in the late fall and got rid of some dead wood that surely would have fallen.

The morning should be interesting when I can see just what happened. Things are still cracking and falling all over the place.

But we have power, at least for now.

It's almost daybreak ... I hope you don't have too much of a mess on your hands from the storm. Sending warm hugs. We got a covering of snow during the night ... the new snow looks so pretty right now, Christmas lights are glowing through it.

As a worker for your electric/gas company.....I'm glad your power is on...there are 150,000 roughly without power in the eastern part of N.Y.

We had one of those a couple years back that took out the electric for days! I hope that doesn't happen to you.

We had one of the worst ice storms I can remember last year. Many trees were lost and damaged throughout the area . . . it looked as though a tornado had hit.
I hope you escape such damage and the resultant power loss, Nancy.
Please let us know how you're faring.

Nancy,

I love your tyle of describing things...despite the bad storm and what damage it might make, I could feel you are at peace inside and the whole picturesque felt cozy to me:)

I hope there was no much damage. Be careful.

Hope everything is ok Nancy. Will wait to hear from you. I do not like ice at all. Snow, rain ok but ice is nothing but dangerous. Hope everyone is safe.

Hope all is well, Nancy and that a lack of power is all that is keeping you from giving us an update!

Nancy,

I hope and pray you are safe and warm. Those ice storms can be nasty --- as a kid in western Tennessee in the early 50s, I went through one that snapped huge trees like matchsticks and knocked our power out for two weeks. We had to huddle around a fireplace and even do what cooking we could on it.

Hope you are okay and will be back with us soon.

Hi Nancy

Keep us up to date. Saw on the major news network that much of New England is without power and loaded with ice. We just had rain down south.....but we had almost 5 inches of it.....our ditches are FULL!!!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
It's our turn now!

Tomorrows high (Sun 14th) is 8 and low real feel is -19
Double Brrrrrrrrrr!

Ice storms are somewhat common around here....Montreal had one a couple of days ago, and we got off with some freezing rain between snowfalls.
Hopefully you are all safe!

It brought back bad memories of our January 1998 ice storm where about a million people or so were without power and some for a month. For us it was 10 days!
