Anyone interested in a weekly thread for non-mileage activities?

Since my easiest to guage activity, high school soccer reffing, is now complete for the fall (19 varsity and playoff games through last night), I could use a point system. I'll be on the treadmill somewhat, walking in the park somewhat and, hopefully, starting to work on machines at the YMCA near my office.

So, I get the points for differing minutes of walking, jogging, running, but what can we get for Nautilus or similar equipment?

As for sex, any suggestions on getting my wife on the program? ;)

And how do you determine points based on solo and team exercise?

Oh gee, scare me Dennis - I thought I was going to read "how do you determine points based on solo and team sex".
As for suggestions for the wife and you..........go to bed earlier ;)

Superbob's activity report for today:

* One hour of physical therapy for knee, including 10 minutes on the X-bike. I suggested to the PT hottie that she just leave the heating wrap on my knee and we knock off the exercise, but she then proceeded (after laughing) to double all my exercise. (She even increased me from zero resistance on the bike to Level 7 -- until she realized about halfway through that was a "mistake.") So anyway that was a good workout. :)

* Then took Superdawg for a hilly walk at a local park. About a mile. Been avoiding the hills but did these okay. Need to ice it now. (Where's the PT to do it for me?)

* Finally, been thinking about sex every 7 seconds (about average for the male of the species). :D;)

Yep, Bina, at this rate Superbob should be superslim by next spring. :p

We could be the 'Action Faction'. Or something with the word activity,or
or 'Weekly Do or Dare'.Or The Daring Do's.
I like the idea because like Bina I have trouble with heavy exertion like running,
so alot of times I end up dancing (when no one is looking:D)or
doing isometric exercises. I do bike ride- but not everyday.
And horseback riding is good exercise, utilizing all the muscles. It must be
nice to ride regularly.
I must admit ,I too was thinking of sex when I first read this thread, and
lo and behold , there is Mary saying what is on everyone's mind, when
we are too timid. Thanks Mary.
So, we should definitely allow sex as an activity, but it will be up to PGM
if we get specific about it:D Or just leave it as an anonymous activity.
But how to monitor the activities-I guess by minutes and if it was mild/moderate /intense...
.intense?...uh oh thinking of sex again.
I'll let someone else pick up from here:)

Ok, seriously, the point system is based on activity level and duration. Basically, burning 100 calories in activity is equal to 1 point. If you are an online WW member, you can use their point system. If you use a HRM, you can use that to calculate your calories burned (though my cardiologist says that with the beta blockers and the pacemaker, I'm working much harder than my HRM shows, especially on no-impact activities like the elliptical). If you don't have a HRM you can use the "perception of exertion" scale: 30 minutes of light activity, 20 minutes of moderate activity, or 10 minutes of vigorous activity = 1 point. It's all on the honor system anyway.

I dunno I want to hear a recital of EVERYTHING (scurrilous or not) that everyone does

I was thinking something like "this week I walked, biked, rode my horse, and went to the gym for a total of X points" or "a total of X hours and Y minutes of exercise" if you don't want to use points.

I am feeling very sad because I can't participate in the mileage throwdown. Now that I am back to my normal sport (horseback riding hunter/jumper and the cross-training exercises that go with it) nothing I do can be shared in terms of miles.

There have got to be members of this forum who participate in sports and activities that aren't mileage-related (off the top of my head, things like basketball, volleyball, bowling, powerlifting/Olympic weightlifting, tennis, etc.)

Anyone interested in sharing and encouraging each other in these types of activities?

Would Lazy-Boy lounging or sofa sitting count?:p

I'm still thinking of possible names, but my favorite suggestion so far is Super Bob's "Movin' & Groovin'" (I edited it a little.) It may be too old-school to appeal to our younger members, so if there are any younger members who are unmotivated by that name, they should speak up!

Movin' and Groovin' -- that was Superbob's best attempt to be new school. :D

Oh well, I guess SB is about as old school as old school gets, in many ways (which we won't go into). :p

Glad you like the name, or a variation of it, and I think we can have a lot of fun with the thread and get some good fitness ideas out of it.
