Today marked the autumnal equinox for those of us here in the Northern Hemisphere. Autumn is my favorite season, and the onset of Fall is a pagan holiday that I celebrate with great joy. So I wanted to share my simple Harvest Home celebration with my friends here on VR, with best wishes for good health to all!

Here is my "Autumn Altar," with lit candles to help the waning sun provide light, a bit of Sake to warm the heart, and the Old Farmer's Almanac to remind me of where we are in the rolling year.

Tonight's holiday meal is fit for a pagan (and a heart disease patient): red kidney bean curry served over brown rice with asparagus spears drizzled with olive oil and Naan bread. For dessert: Lemon pudding.

May you all "live long and prosper" as Spock said.

Happy Autumn to all of you too!!This is my favorite time of year, besides Christmas. My birthday, my husband birthday, and our anniversary all in Nov.
I guess thats why I love this time of year so much, besides it getting cooler but right now it's still in the 90's here. :( I got all my Fall decoration out of the attic today and decorated the house so hope it starts getting cooler soon.
No Falling leaves here in the desert. :( Bina I can't believe your turning on your furnace already!!!
Jim that food pics sure looked good. Is that what your having for dinner?:D

beautiful pictures. we're all comin for dinner soon.

we have been waking up to strangely cool weather for a while now. I have never seen it get this cool here so early, but it is very welcome. Love sittin on the porch in our underwear just enjoying the cool pleasant fresh woods air and listening to the birds wake up. Dogwood trees have seeds on them that turn red and leaves fade to yellow, orange, then shed when weather gets cold. A.C. is not running 24/7 so we are also saving $. yea for fall.

Yes, that was dinner last night and it was GREAT! Actually, the curry is a prepared dish that comes in a packet that you simply heat in a saucepan of water. It's vegetarian and low cholesterol, so I can enjoy it without worries.

I started putting up the Fall decorations myself. It's such a great time of the year.

I love the colors and smells of the season, but I sure hate what comes along with it....COLD. When I was younger, this was hunting season and from now until the end of December, I'd hunt every chance I could. I miss smelling burning leaves and stuff like that in which my dad used to do all the time. Now try it and get slapped with a fine.

We celebrate by switching on the furnace.:D

First open fire of the season on Saturday night. :) "Soon be Christmas", said our youngest!! Be lighting the woodburner in a month. Central heating boiler on and off for a few weeks now as we had an awful summer over here.

Have you checked out Wicca Jim?

One of my favourite little chaps is

The Green Man. Not least because he's the name used by many English pubs. :D

Many European Christian churches are built on pagan sites. In business terms a takeover of the opposition. Some though give a nod to their past as in this stained glass.

Fall is upon us here in upstate NY too. Frost already. Not fair! That shouldn't happen before the trees turn colors. Heat's been on for a week or so.

We are still running A/C however it's cooled off a bit (70+) so it's not running as much. Heats up during the day into the 80s.

oh yippee, fall is here. Turned the furnace off because we had our Indian Summer last week.........or should I say "First Nations Summer?"
No frost yet, my roses are still blooming, but soon will have to dig out the heavier sweatshirts and socks.

Oh yippee, 6 months of cold and ice.

Here I sit smelling like fuel oil changing the filters and getting the oil dragon ready to go.

Happy Autumn to you Skeptic. We've had three wonderfully sunny days over here so I'm hoping for an indian autumn never mind indian summer. Incidentally does anyone know where the term 'indian summer' comes from? A weather question that I hope doesn't mess the thread up.

Indian summer is a name given to a period of sunny, warm weather in autumn, not long before winter. Usually occurring after the first frost, Indian summer can be in September, October, or early November in the northern hemisphere, and March, April, or early May in the Southern hemisphere. It can persist for a few days or extend to a week or more.

We let Grandkids swim for the last time last weekend and then covered the pool. It has been in the 60s here in the mornings and Low 80s during the day.
I have already taken the little ones shopping for their Halloween Costumes(we go early so they get what they want). This is my favorite time of year. I can't wait until it is time to light up the Wood Burning stove and sit back with a glass of Vanilla Cognac.
