My friend Karen died this morning during surgery to install a pacemaker. She was not a member of the forum...but she was a fellow valver. Her heart valve was damaged many years ago by a virus. She had AVR surgery in April. She had some complications...some bleeding issues and also ended up with some blocked arteries and had a stent put in. She finally was starting to do better but they could not control her bleeding during the pacemaker surgery.

She was there for me when I had my AVR surgery 5 years ago. She was there when our 19 year old son was seriously ill for 6 months a number of years ago. I will miss her very much.

Sorry to hear your sadness, thoughts and prayers
to you and Karens family.

I'm so sorry to read of the loss of your friend. Condolences to you and all her friends and family.

I'm sorry.
Nothing can replace the loss of a true friend.
But you will always feel that she is with you.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.

Stories such as this always make me wonder about the circumstances, and if everything was done right.

Do you know if your friend was anticoagulated and if they maintained anticoagulation during the procedure?
Or if they used some sort of Bridging technique (perhaps improperly?)

I don't ever recall hearing of anyone having uncontrollable bleeding during / after a pacemaker implantation.

Sorry to ask all these detailed questions, but I think it could be useful information to the group, especially others who require a pacemaker.

So sorry you lost your friend. Sounds like you will miss her deeply but you have alot of good memories, cherish those. My prayers are with you and your friend Karen's family.

My condolences to all who are grieving for this sad loss.

A particularly poignant post as a pacemaker bleed began my endocarditis saga. There but for the grace of God go I.

My sincere sympathy to you and her family. May all your fond memories help to console you in the months and years ahead.

It is so difficult when a dear friend is lost - but your friend isn't lost to you; she is in your heart and your memory and will always be there. I am so sorry for her passing. You are in my thoughts this morning.
