Wll if you made it past the thread title congratulations!

I was put on 40 mgs of Diovan about 3 weeks ago as my Mitral valve is leaking moderately (5 years post op) and I am feeling the effects .. :(

My cardiologist increased the dosage to 80 mg a few days ago and this am I noticed that my umm bowel movement was a very odd color green...Please spare the jokes! There is no change to my diet..

I called Novartis and they didn't have it listed as a side effect. When I described the color, I told the rep that the color of my stool was very close to the color of the diovan.com website!

No this is not a joke!

What will there marketing department think of next?

but seriously, the color is really weird and it's just one more thing that is disturbing me now, which I don't need as my heart is bothering me as it did 5 years ago before surgery...Guess they will increase the Diovan again..can't wait..

Going for echo stress test on Monday then 2nd meeting with cardiac surgeon at NYU to review...

Thanks for reading..

It's not the Diovan. I don't know what it would be.

The Pharmacist called me just now and he spoke to Novartis for me (how's that for customer service), he said the person he spoke with did mention that stool color change (darker primarily) is a possible side effect of Diovan. The pharmacist did mention it could be a combination of Diovan and perhaps another medication I am taking..Adderall is blue...

It's a very weird distinct color...I am watching my diet closely and hopefully it's nothing serious. I am due for a blood test to follow up on the Diovan next week.

I can hardly believe this website exists... http://greenbowelmovement.com
One thing did catch my eye though - are you taking iron?

I also ran across these comments: Also, if food travels through the digestive system too fast, bile hasn?t got the time to change color from green to brown. So, I think you have nothing to worry, except if you have severe diarrhea for more than few days?

I get that from time to time . I found out in my case is that im a cheese lover too much cheese seems to be my case

I have geen bowel movements if I eat black licorice.

I have green bowel movements when I drink blue gatorade. - may in fact be something with the Adderall...

I would certainly mention it to your doc to make sure it isn't your liver causing problems.

Just a thought: Maybe you drank or ate something with green or blue food coloring?

I was having casual conversation with a gas station attendant about the blue slushy beverage they sell, and she warned me that my poop would turn blue and kindly showed me pictures of her blue/turquoise poop on her camera phone to prove it.

So, s**t happens. If it happens consistently and you don't see a cause from your diet, I'd start thinking about getting that med switched.

BLACK LICORICE?

Wow...that might be it...I just got back from vacation..have hardly eaten and did in fact finish off a bag of black Twizzler's two nights ago..

I'll report back soon if you know what I mean...lol..lol..

btw, that exact experience happened to me...literally bought this insane drink at a gas station and produced blue 'product'...

Do I win the most disgusting thread contest?

I'm just kinda wondering what you guys are doing looking at the finished product. :D

actually it was a very nice color...thinking of painting my bathroom that color..:D

can't believe the rep at Novartis didnt laugh when I said the stool was the exact color of the diovan.com logo...

I have to think it's the dye in the adderal tab causing it. Heck, who knows, maybe your simply a Martian.

this is fun

this is fun

You know, this IS NOT just gonna go away! I have mentioned it in my SNEEZE post and was called jealous. That was BEFORE you got the licorice thing figured out:confused:. Now that we all know, it's all fair game;). I want to know what you are gonna do in Novartis starts including this as a possible side effect or spends millions to find a cause and millions more to change their formula. You gonna fess up to them?

Actually I sold all my shares in NVS...lol

This couldbe food related like some of the guys mentioned but, it could also be GI problem related. I know about 10-12 years ago just be fore I had my gall bladder taken out a stone in my bile duct did similar unspeakable things to my body. You really should check with your family Doc a nd see what he thinks if it is not food related

Thanks for the concern but this is ONE story I am not sharing with a doctor! All I can say is..."you had to be there"...lol..

Nah, this was def caused by copious amounts of Black Twizzlers and not eating much else that day...
