Just wondering if anyone else out there who has had a valve replacement and is on blood thinners ever has a glass of wine or two on occasions? I am going to ask my doctor on my next visit, but I did ask the nurse in charge of regulating my Cumadin, and she says that it will not hurt me, just so long as Im not an every day drinker. I rarely ever drink, but occasionally whe I go out to dinner or something like that I like to have some wine or maybe a beer. I was just wondering if anyone out there allows themself this, and what they have been advised. Thanks!!!

Hey there! I too am new to coumadin, but have been advised that an occasional drink is not a big deal- (just cant binge) I think even having a daily glass of wine wouldnt hurt either.
There were a few days in a row that I had baileys with my coffee just because it was there- no big deal. I was actually going to open up a bottle of wine myself...Cheers!

I am on Warfarin, and I like to have a glass of wine every night with my dinner.
I've been told it's not a problem to have one standard drink per day (eg a glass of wine or a beer).....just don't go overboard and binge drink etc:D:).
Gosh, we deserve to have one "vice" in life after all we've been through!!

If you feel like a wine, go for it.

Billiejo...Im just over 5 months now and have resumed my pre-surgery life just about completely. This includes a beer on Friday night if we go out to dinner and 2 or 3 on the weekend depending on what I have going on. I have been told that the drinking is just like your food diet in regards to Coumadin. Be consistent. Ive never been much of a drinker but I had one today walking around the Irish Festival.

Relax and enjoy a glass if that what you want, just don't pound the whole bottle !

Shouldn't be a problem having a glass or two with dinner. One of my meds in the hospital after surgery was a 12 oz can of beer:eek:. Docs said it would help me lose fluids and I was all for it;):D. In most situations, alchohol in moderation, will not cause problems;).

Gee, my surgeon was the one who told me to have one glass of red wine a day. Never did say how big the glass was suppose to be. LOL

You should be just fine having your wine.....enjoy!

Cheers

My cardio and surgeon both say a glass of wine is fine.

I told my surgeon I drink 4-5 glasses of wine a week and he called it a healthy amount (with a bit of a grin).

My husband will have a beer or glass of wine a few nights a week, and has on occaison over induldged  On a cruise in 2006, we split a bottle wine at dinner, and WOW  that was fun....but just that once, hehe....
