Is there anything more frustrating than having dizzy spells and not knowing the cause?

I went out to get the paper this morning and felt so off balance I sat down and never got to the paper box.

At church I got so dizzy for a moment I almost staggered out during the opening prayer.

Have had mini spells this afternoon; feel a little light-headed right now.

Don't have any chest pain, or breathing problems, so I don't feel it is heart-related. Most likely, it is recurrence of old inner-ear problem, or what docs have suspected was that -- no way to really diagnose it for sure. But when you have other things going on, it adds to the angst. Maybe I just need some rest.

Some months before my heart surgery, I had a spell of severe dizziness, panicked, and got toted in ambulance to ER. Only thing the doc there could figure was, yes, inner-ear. Embarrassing. I ain't gonna repeat that if I can help it.

Funny, we named our first dog Dizzy way back in my boyhood. Guess I should have named myself that instead of the cocker spaniel,

One of the ways my ear doctor diagnosed inner ear problems was to have me lie down with my head lower than my feet and then pulled me up quickly. If it is inner ear, you will usually have the "spinning room" sensation. If not, it is usually not inner ear but I am sure there are exceptions.

You know darn well you should not ignore such symptoms. Don't be dizzy.;)

Oh my, this is spooky cause I've been getting dizzy too. But I don't get the "spinning room" effect like geebee explains. But I have also been losing my balance with no dizzy spells.

Maybe SB and I should get together and be dizzy together.......wouldn't THAT be fun.

I have just hopefully had my dixxy-like spells fixed...We lowered my Metoprolol by 25mg per dose and it hasn't happened since...previously my Doc was sure it was "Labrynthitis"...I wasnt happy with that Dx.

Bob,

I feel your pain. I've had some dizzy spells, too. Not so much recently as during my college years. The diagnoses was an inner ear imbalance, or something like that. Luckily, the "constant" dizzy spells didn't last long.....

Mee too...

Mee too...

I have been experiencing the same thing at 6 weeks. I had the same problem 5 or so years ago and they called it unexplained vertigo. Gee... i paid for that explanation.....????

My Metoprolol is at 25 mg and i pushed taking it back by a half a day to see if the symptoms would lighten... but nooooooooooooooooo. Next i want to catch a BP reading during a spell. Just bought the BP machine today. I usually run pretty low.

I'll be going in for my 6-8 week follow up and i will tell them about it. who knows what to expect.

Bob,
you sure its not your BP? a drop as little as 10-20 points in the top number can cause symptoms, this is usually the dizziness thats not the "off balance spinning room" kind though, I usually get light headded, and its either sit or pass out, when I am dehydrated, I really start having issues. . . a few skipped beats here or there, and I am really feeling it
just a thought. . . make sure you get it checked out though may not be as easy as it seems

You guys are great as always -- low BP is a possibility I hadn't even thought of. I am living such a "better life through chemistry" existence that I just assume my BP is ducky -- could actually get too low. Maybe my meds need adjusting. I will see if my cheap little home BP monitor still works -- I've rarely used it.

Inner-ear is so non-specific---docs say we think it's that, but we really don't know. And there's nothing to do about it really except live with it. Frustrating.

Well, so far this morning my world seems to be standing still and that's a good thing.:)

I do very much like Freddie's suggestion though -- two dizzy folks havin' some dizzy fun -- works for me. ;)

Gee, I must be ancient. I thought this was going to be a thread devoted to Dizzy Dean!:eek:
Just call ME Dizzy!:p

Don't forget his brother Paul, who was "Daffy" Dean. Dizzy and Daffy Dean and the Gashouse Gang -- great era for Redbirds baseball. But that does go way back -- surely too far back for a young chick like you, Mary. :p:rolleyes:

Don't know if I am more dizzy or daffy. Bit of both maybe. :p

So Bob, what's your BP?
Mine is always low....thank you Metoprolol....and I get some late day dizzy spells.
If I cut down the Meto then I have tachycardia, etc. It's a no win situation for me....Good Luck.

Took it just now just for you, Bina. ;) It is 119/83 pulse: 61

I take a 25 MG Metoprolol twice a day. Seems to work, but maybe it gets on the low side sometime.

Also, I am wobbly when I get up because of the bum knee, so that may contribute to the off-balance feeling. Had last session of PT today; will se ein a few weeks whether the ortho says surgery or muddle through.

dr accidentally rxed my bp med double and I nearly passed out and nearly fell til I went back to her and she discovered what she had done. Eventually I/we dropped some bp med. It's awful to be over medicated. I am much better now and can do stuff I have not done for a very long time.

Thanks, Ann. I am wondering if it isn't an over-med thing with me, too. Had a few more spells today. Need to take it up with my GP. Glad you got that taken care of and are feeling better.

That's a good BP.....mine sometimes creeps under 90 and then I feel awful.

I like the idea of doing BP reading next time you get the dizzies...will help with ruling out that cause...mine was reading 100/60 normally so I hate to think what it dropped to when I was getting woozy...
