Plato: Music...gives wings to the mind, a soul to the universe, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, a life to everything.

Considering "musical" threads of the past, is this a good description of music? What (if anything) would you add?

Freddie and Ann ... love your additions!

One description I add to Plato's list:

"Music is the soundtrack for road trips."

Music is the soundtrack for roadtrips...

When I play Vivaldi while driving, I am internally paced and in control and nothing bugs me. My brow is high ;) .
When I play some of my other fun music... Look out  !!! I'm best sticking with classical while driving...

Several years ago when our sons were teenagers, we were driving through Nevada and Utah during a spectacular late night lightening show, with a Boston CD playing. It was like a synchronized light show! That was a really neat roadtrip experience!

Tonight we're going to the Symphony to hear Tchaikovsky. I am so excited!!!

Perhaps I will have something profound to say about it later. Perhaps not  .

[I'll add an edit here rather than adding another post - Tchaikovsky was FABULOUS!!! The symphony performed a couple of other things that had obscure melodies that I just couldn't wrap my ears around. I would have preferred that they scratched the other music (although it was also performed well) and just played more Tchaikovsky! We heard Andante Cantibile, which had a bit of theme that sounded like "Song of the Volga Boatmen" to me, and we heard the fantastic Symphony No. 2, Little Russian. I don't know that I would enjoy a CD of it but experiencing the live orchestra performing Tchaikovsky was really cool! I realize none of my description was profound, but it was such a really pleasurable evening :) .]

Ah - music! My work, my passion. For me music is feelings and thoughts that the soul can otherwise not express through mere words.

I have always said that if God wants to get my attention - He sends a song.

I love James Taylors quote about his writing that 'He doesn't create a song, he just sees himself as the first person to hear it.'

you'd love one of our very small churches - oldest one in town dating back to late 1800s. There is a concert once a month during summer months. The church has a wonderful old organ, updated in recent years, at thed insistence of my brother, who was an accomplished organist. An organist comes from elsewhere to perform baroque, etc. Sometimes we have soloists and others come with their instruments like oboe, etc. Wonderful.

I love listening to music on Roadtrips as well Cort....

I love listening to music on Roadtrips as well Cort....

I love listening to 70's music when I am cruising.....I love listening to Basil Polidouris who composes awesome piano music when I am needing to relax, and I love listening to country music when I want to go out to a club but can't afford it....LOL:D :p :p :D

P.S. I love music because I know it's something I can appreciate simply because I don't have the lung capacity to torture others with my lousy voice.....LOL...

Oh my ... that does sound neat. Heh ... reminds me of a family road trip out to CA and back in 1991. We were going through a mountainous area ... and the tape in the car was playing Chariots of Fire ... talk about an AWESOME soundtrack to an awesome, scenic drive!
