Had the staples (33 of them) removed from my incision today... it feels soooo much better now. I know it is a silly little thing but for me it is another step down the road. Simple pleasures!

Having the staples removed is not a silly little thing....for me it was HUGE.:)
Every time those dang things got stuck on a towel or gown, I was freaking out.
They are just annoying.....lucky they are only there for a few days.

When I had my surgery 25 years ago, I only had steri-strips on my incision, with one large suture sticking out of the top, they had sewn me up inside out. Has everyone who has had surgery recently had staples?

Kim

Two years ago for my OHS I had disolving sutures and steri strips. But almost 30 years ago, when I had my kidney surgery I had staples. I was in th ehospital about 10 days and they took the staples out before I went home.

Me too.
Just had to get the top stitch/knot removed cause it was snagging on everything

Both the top and the bottom where the thread kind of stuck out did not dissolve as fast, and I kept playing with it, so I finally cut the ends off myself!! It worked!

inside out disolving stitches.

Clear tape for the first couple of days.

Healed well bar the bullet hole at the top where the final stitch which couldnt be done inside out never really healed well.

I was sooo happy to get them out. I had 4 bypasses. There were staples from neck to on down not far from the navel. And from ankle on up into groin where they took out the saphenous vein to use for the bypasses. I Felt like a robot. I know you are moving easier without that metal holding you together.

breastbone is wired, dissolving stitches and clingfilm for the rest !

I wondered why that was puckered - I felt like a turkey with a big gizzard or whatever it is . . . seems OK now, it has flattened out, 4.5 months after OHS.

My son was glued too, im glad he didn't get staples doesn't sound very nice:eek: . Glad they are out and you are doing well.

Glue for me.

I read somewhere (possibly not credible....a Google search) that the glue causes more scar tissue....hypertrophied scar....keloid. How are your scars doing...glue people? Mine is at 22 months and seems to be getting abit more keloid looking. Been hypertrophied since about 9 months out. Just curious.
And then how about the staple scars?? any keloids or hypertrophies out there?

Glad you are feeling better, Nick. 33 staples. That's amazing! How long is your incision?

:) Marguerite

Glue here and my scar looks pretty good. There are a couple of spots about 1/4 inch long that are a little puckered. The small scar where they removed the wires was glued as well. It is more puckered than the other one, particularly at the bottom where it came open to let the excess blood out, but it is also much newer. It doesn't show in any of my clothes (no bikinis or Hooter's shirts here), so it doesn't bother me.

Even though I just had steri-strips I had a bad keloid. I had steroid shots in it for a year (very painful) and then finally my plastic surgeon cut it out and I had it treated with one small dose of radiation which kept it from coming back. My scar is great looking but not for long. I know it seems silly to worry about the way my scar will look considering everything else I will have on my plate, but I don't want it to look like a big purple worm crawling up my chest again. I have a very good friend who is a radiologist who said he would take care of it as soon as I get home.
