I know there are a few of you out there who have chronic A-fib as I do. Would you be willing to share your symptoms, if any? I am having more and more problems with difficulty breathing upon exertion and am wondering if it could be the A-fib.

And, yes, I will be meeting with my cardio but just curious about others.;) :D

Gina -

I'm sorry to read this and I hope your doctor has the answers you need.

My uncle is in chronic A-fib and has been cardioverted a few times but he's been out of rhythm for too long now and can't get back in now with the cardioversion. He's been on ACT for at least 20 years as I recall, in connection to A-fib but I don't recall what other meds he takes besides a beta blocker.

He can't tell he's in A-fib--can't feel it--and never could tell he was in it; but he has always been a "napper" and is at a point in his life, mid-70's, when he must have his nap every afternoon. He still works part-time though.

Gina, Can you tell me what your a-fib feels like? My card is afraid that I am going into a-fib and might pass a clot across my asd. We have not been able to capture it on a monitor yet. I only have it happen about once every 2 weeks or so. I feel somewhat of a rapid beat but mostly there seems to be no rhythm to it at all. I always feel like I'm going to pass out but it is so brief, (30-60 seconds) that I never have. It then takes several "normal" beats for me to feel right again. Are you on meds for yours and if so, do they work? Thanks,

Kim

Hello:

Quickly......my husband is in chronic a-fib. His biggest issue is fatigue. He is exhausted most mornings, after having slept like a baby for 9 to 10 hours straight. His heart rate will FLY upon exertion, or if he gets stressed. It can take him a day or two to recover from getting upset. He also has a low heart rate.......30BPM at times, with heart rate pauses as long as 2.9 seconds. He gets dizzy at times. As long as he keeps to his daily routine, and does not over exert himself, he seems to be able to tolerate the various pulse rates. He does take awhile to get up and at em in the morning, and often rests in his chair in the afternoon. Again, fatigue is the main symptom. I am not sure if this helps. - Marybeth

Marybeth,

A heartrate of 30 is a concern. I'm surprised his Cardiologist (he does have one, right?) isn't addressing this issue (i.e. with a pacemaker).

What Meds is your husband on? Too high of a dose of Beta Blockers or Ace Inhibitors can result in a Low Heartrate.

When I developed exercise induced A-Fib, my Cardio put me on a Low Dose of Sotalol (Generic for BetaPace) which works Quite Well for Me.
