bump on the head

Been on coumandin for a year as a result of OHS & aorta valve replacement.
Today was the first day I have hit my head on accident pretty good....so when is a bump on the head ok and when is it time to visit the ER to check??
I have a bump about the size of a golf ball on the side of my head. Don't feel great but wondering if I should have it checked out or not. Any guidelines?

Matt, go to the Emergency Dept just to be on the safe side.

A few months ago I had a similar experience - my son accidentally shut the car door on the back of my head, and I got a swelling. I wasn't sure what to do so I rang the hospital and they said come up just so we can check you over.
My main concern was that I had done my INR earlier that day and it was 6.1 so I was worried about bleeding inside the brain, of course....

Anyway it all turned out fine, but you'll feel better if you get yourself checked out.

You'll probably be just fine, but with something that size, better at least let them take a look.

Thanks you all for the info....I am thinking about purchasing a helmet for some of my outdoor activities such as sailing. Matt

Sailing, biking, football, and anywhere else that you might slam your noggin into something, it would be a good idea. I think I need one for getting into my car. I've smacked my cranium a couple times now and that smarts.

Hi Matt,
I'm assuming you've already gone to the ER and cked out just fine. 5 mos. post OHS I fell in the bathroom and broke my nose against the bathtub. I was whisked off to the ER and cked out okay except for broken nose. You wouldn't have even believed my face the next day!! Not only did I have two black eyes, but my entire face was purple for nearly a week. I was so relieved I'd been medically ok'ed b/c I seriously did not look medically ok.

I also now wear a helmet when skiing, but even if I did fall I'd definitely get into an ER asap to make sure all was fine.
