I just watched a show that was made before most of you were born, but back in those days, all the 'old' people watched it. The singers, dancers, band people, and leader wore clothes that covered them (all over), suits for the men, pretty dresses for the ladies, music was beautiful. I have not seen it in a gazillion years. My mother never missed a show. We all thought it was dull, but it is a beautiful show (now that I am in my mother's class). Can you guess? Lawrence Welk!!!

My family watched it every Saturday when I was a bit younger.;) I was one of 3 sisters born in 3 years so we were very close and did everything together. I remember we had really fancy slips (for "poofing" dresses in those days). The slips were full meaning they had tops as well as the full skirt area. We used to wear them as ballerina outfits and dance to the music. I guess it was an early, private version of "Dancing with the Stars".

Remember the Lennon Sisters (and, no, they were not from Liverpool).:D ;) :D

Thanks for bringing back good memories. "An a one, an a two, an a three".

I guess to heck he was still around...LOL

He was still around when I was growing up. I got to see some of his shows.

My parents watched his show faithfully every Saturday night from my early years right up until it was cancelled...I grew up on both The Osmonds and Lawrence Welk So much for heavy partying...LOL

I hate to admit I'm that old, but I remember it well.
Still catch some re-runs now and then.
They did have some class back in those days.

I think he had a line , "Turn off the bubble machine" And was not the beautiful Champagne Lady......Norma Zimmer????  How embarrassing that I know these tidbits:eek:

The Lawrence Welk Show still comes on the PBS Station in Roanoke, and simulcast throughout the coalfields of Virginia on the PBS Network. I love it, and watch whenever I can. Ah, the memories of mom and dad watching, and us kids sitting around as well (we only got one channel when I was growing up in the coalfields in the 60's). And now, a word from Geritol!

Those were days huh? I remember it was a Saturday ritual that Dad, Mom, Brother & I would pile into the car & drive over to my uncle's house & watch Lawrence Welk over there because we didn't have a TV when the show first came out!

Lennon sisters from Liverpool - must've been John's mothers???:D :p

yes, Norma Zimmer was (one of) the champagne lady. I think there were several but she was the last and probably the longest lasting one.

It comes on PBS every Saturday night. I enjoy all those British shows; they are so funny and are on PBS locally, and while waiting for them, lo and behold I found Lawrence Welk.

The Bubble man!!
my grandma watched it.. I liked the bubbles!

I do remember being about 5 or 6 and meeting bobby burghess and Sissy king at a local fair.. I thought that was so special b/c my grandma watched them on tv!

I watched it on the Saturdays I'd have sleep-overs at my Grandma's. I thought Bobby (Sissy and Bobby) was so "hot".:D

Remember when Ed Sullivan had Elvis on and they would not show him below his waist. My dad had a fit becuase my aunt went to see Elvis, how could she!!!!!!! I was in High School and couldn't go see him, what a bummer

Gee, at first I thought you might have been referring to The Lucky Strike Hit Parade! Many similarities between the two, as far as being conservative. Of course, the music differed.

My parents didn't care for Lawrence Welk, being classical music buffs, but my father in law watched it every week!
