Just thought I'd let you know that I did not just drop out of sight after my surgery. I had many post-op complications and ended up spending 20 days in the hospital - 12 of them in ICU.

I ended up with an ON-X valve, as well as having my ascending aorta replaced.

We are still dealing with a few of the complications but I'm beginning rehab this week. My white blood count is too high, my hematocrit level is too low and I'm dealing with "fuzzy" brain issues, sleeping (or rather inability to sleep) issues, no appetite, and continued pain. However, after being touch and go for over a week, not knowing whether I'd make it or not, I'm happy to be alive!

Wow, evidently you've really had a rough go of it, Faye. Glad to read your post and that you're doing better now. Post again when you can and take care.
 
So sorry to hear that you had such a hard time of it Faye, but I hope that is all behind you now and recovery is smooth and complete.
 
Wow, Faye, that's a long time to be eating hospital food!:D Hopefully being back to familiar surroundings will help you to sleep and mend speedily. Take care.
 
Every now and then one of our members does have a harder time than most. I'm sorry it was you and wish you a smooth recovery from here on out!

I hate to read that you had such a difficult time with the replacement.
Rest up, take your time about resuming activities, and keep us posted on how you're feeling.
You're home now, so that's the good news!:)
 
Sorry to hear the road was a bit bumpy, but I hope it's smooth pavement from now on. Best wishes for a smooth recovery. Glad to see you are posting again.
 
Quite the competitor aren't we? You made it almost half as long as I did. 20 days is too long, but I was in ICU for 50 days and 10 in rehab. Just good to be alive.
 
Wow! 20 days and 50 days! You guys are amazing.

Faye, I had a little bit of a complication that bought me an additional 5 days in the hospital, after I had already come home, but nothing like what you or Ross had. The really good news is that you will likely be better off long term than you would have been if you had some minor issue and fought it at home rather than in the hospital.

Hang in there and get better fast.

Welcome Home from another who had an unexpected turn for the worse in hospital...I hope someone took some "in hospital" photos for you...thats what helped me re-connect with the days I spent in a coma...the loss of those days was such a weird feeling, it took a few weeks to get over it.
 
Faye, I'm so glad you're home and pray that things get better for you every day. 20 days is way to long to be in ICU. Hugs & prayers coming your way.
