Can someone tell me why people register and never come back after registering?

I realize some people don't get our confirmation email, but heck, they never ever check back at all. Plus, if your going to join something, it's only natural to be sure you can receive the email from that forum isn't it? I just got rid of 100 or so of them. Makes no sense to me

Ross, by "never," do you mean, like, never post at all?

(Or do you mean like me--I read and lurk and learn, and post only when I have a question or info. ?? )

Ross. Same thing with Sunday Night chat...We always have someone to come in..that we active members do not recognize. We welcome them..then ask..Are you a registered member on VR.com..?..Soon as we ask that. poop..they are gone?..Maybe shy?...but we have dragged many in...:D When JimL, Jan checks for sure...then we can talk them into staying.....:) Bonnie

Funny..we were posting at same time..By any chance..did you try Sunday Night chat last Night?there was a Sonia?coming/going?Never posted. If it were you..were you having problems with chat? If so..we can help. bonnie

they are able to read a lot of stuff because we have some in the guest book who have read and can't join (their email thingy is wrong), but they have a question. So that's not it. Even back when I joined, I could read everything and that was in 2000.

Sometimes people join sites and forget about it, lose interest, or can't recall their password. I have done that.

Chat often seems to fail me. I laboriously type out my bit of trivia, but very often it never shows up. I have given up for now.

re: question

Hi
I know I don't post often but I do read a lot of the posts. I was hoping to chat but I get home from work around 7 PM California time and most people here are already asleep due to time zones.
Anyone else here from the west?
And , "Cooker" please don't "zap" me!:p

Ross. Not everyone is as insatiably curious as you are!! Those of us who have stayed have found a connection. Maybe those who don't return were simply looking for something else. Or, as was mentioned, maybe they forgot their password, or made up some hard to remember username and just can't get back in.

I was looking into lots of dementia sites while I was dealing with moving my father a few months ago. I had a fabulous conversation with one man in England, but even he said, that the site I was on was not what I was looking for. I have no idea where it was or who I claimed to be....I just let it go because I knew it was not what I was looking for.

We certainly appreciate your cleaning things up around here! Gotta keep the machine running smooth.

I mean register and never come back. No secondary visit or anything. Such as registered 8/1/2006 and that was their last activity for the whole year.

Ross,

As you approach 15,000 you have set a standard that will NEVER be beat. :p  :D

I've seen this happen not only on the forum sites. Several club and civic organizations I've been a member of over the years have this happen all the time. Someone will show at a meeting, join and you never hear from them again. As the membership guy in several of them, I've seen members renew year after year and never participate in any of the functions, even those that REQUIRE participation to maintain membership.

Go figure!!!

May God Bless,

Danny :)

Dennis,

I've suffered many times from the LOST POSTS during chat. You will type something and hit "Enter" and not see it pop up. Usually if it is directed at someone they will respond back but it makes you wonder, "DID IT SHOW UP, OR DID CIBERSPACE EAT ANOTHER ONE????". I had always attributed it to my Snail Mail Land Line hook-up until I found out I wasn't the only one experiencing it.

Of course, some nights it get so busy with 4 or 5 "conversations" going on at once that you think you can't TYPE fast enough to keep up!!!!!

May God Bless,

Danny :)

Are you talking about the HOLIDAY CHRISTIANS???? :p They only show up during Christmas and Easter!!!! Of course, you can sometimes find them at a good Southern Baptist Feed!!!!!! Ain't never seen so much pushing and elbowing until you attend a great POT LUCK SUPPER!!!!! Especially when Susie Q brings them great Chicken and Dumplings!!!:p :D

May God Bless,

Danny :)

I was invited to a Baptist feed after church by a friend who had been through a stomach bypass. As the feeding frenzy got going, she looked at the heaped plates of wonderful comfort southern food and said 'OMG, I used to eat that much all the time'. After the surgery she was limited to 3 oz per meal! Yep, Baptists have the best food you ever want to not eat.

Bonnie, thanks for asking! No, that wasn't me--I've never tried to chat in real time before. But it's a great throught; maybe I'll try next time.

Best, Sona

Ross, they're probably not really people but "bots", hits, I forgot what it's called. On a forum I moderate same thing happens occasionally. One day it looked like we had 1200 new members. LOL. Something like spam hits. Maybe.
