Well here we are 10 months out from the accident and he still cannot put weight on the foot. We are going to attempt to have his orthotic modified to see if that will help any at all. If not, they may remove the hardware, but don't feel that it's causing any of the pain. All the pain is from major arthritis in two different spots of his foot. The word "Amputation" came back into play. :(

Oh Ross--

How terrible! I am so sorry for this young man and of course, for everyone in the family. He's still at home with you, I take it.

Yes he's still here. I'm having a hard time believing we've gone through all of these surgeries for nothing, but that might well be the case.

Hi Ross. Thanks for the update, although I am sorry to read the discouraging news. I was just thinking abour Chris last night and wondering how he was doing. I'll keep sending prayers and good thoughts your way ... hoping things will turn around for him.

10 months- that is a long time. I bet it feels like forever! Man, I am sorry.:(

oh, no. This is really bad news. He is still a kid and his life so drastically changed that night. What an awful shame and making it worse, he has no recourse. I am so sorry for Chris.

Ross sorry to hear on what you and your son are going through. Be a pain in the butt and get all the answers from all your doctors before anything more done.
Good Luck
Freddie
P.S. Check your private messages......I hope it worked

Ross, I'm so sorry that the news of Chris isn't better. I hope things turn around but if they don't then it may be better to face the "A" word and be able to walk and function again rather than having to drag around a useless appendage. I have had many friends with artificial limbs and know that life still goes on and can be good. The reason he is where he is now is what still angers me. That man should have still been in jail so he couldn't cause an accident let alone the kind of accident that has reaped so much hardship on your family.

Chris and I talked about this some yesterday. He would almost rather have an artificial limb too, simply so he can get back to life, driving, working, etc.

What angers me is that even though Mr. Riley is in prison for 8 years, he has had 24 entries on his arrest record and this time, the judge suspended his driving privileges for the rest of his life. BIG DEAL---Most of the entries on his arrest record are for driving without a license, fictitious plates, reckless operation etc. He's going to get out and continue the trend. He has shown no remorse whatsoever and blames the accident on everyone else except himself. Rob a store, go to prison for 25 years, kill someone while your drunk, get 8.

How very discouraging.

Are they hoping to do something to give him full weight bearing abilities, or are they just hoping for partial?

Sooo sorry to hear this news. I will definitely put you guys in my prayers. "A" has to be the verrry last thing they'll even consider.....is he in PT?

Unfortunately, I'm sure this idiot who hit Chris can do 8 years standing on his head.......it's no big deal to him. You're right, he should be put away for life. NYS just enacted a law that will give dwi offenders who kill someone 25 yrs.....after a waaay tragic accident where a flower girl and the chauffeur were killed by a drunk driver. It is such a tragic waste of life.

Here's hoping much better days are ahead for all of you.

Ugh! I was so reluctant to read this post, Ross. I can't believe the load your family has had to bear. I'm sure it would be too difficult to actually do, but wouldn't it be nice if this Riley inmate got weekly updates on the misery he has inflicted? You could send him detailed letters and include nice belts and ties in each package.

10 months for Chris being in pain... Plus..not being able to walk, ect.....that is a long time for a young man to be home-bounded.:( Plus, knowing you/Lyn have him to take care of..You are one special Dad..:) Does he still have to use crutches?Or a walker..to get around in the house? My Grandson has 1 more week of being on crutches from breaking his femoral bone..2 weeks ago...On his 15th Birthday:eek: then 6 weeks on walking on his toes...He is off pain meds..just bored..:D ....Nothing like Chris has gone thru...He is with his Mom in N.C. and I send him care-packages every week...DVD's ect.....Can we do anything to help out with Chris?I am sure many members would be willing to send him a care-package?DVD's, candy, favorite snacks, ect..Cards, tee-shirts ( I found a great deal..bought Kameron 5 tee-shirts for $10.00..Extra size to lay around in...)..Bonnie

They were hoping for full, but now, even partial would be nice. There is nothing normal about the fused bones. His Calcaneous and Talus were literally crushed. They had to piece it all together and hoped for the best. I don't know where were going yet. I guess we'll soon see.
