Had a recheck with my cardiologist today and he suggested that I take 81mg aspirin a day, said that cardiac journals are leaning toward that for mechanical valvers.

Should the aspirin have any effect on my INR? My thinking is no, since warfarin and aspiring work in 2 different ways. My cardio said for me to retest about 4 days after starting the baby aspirin -- just in case. And to watch for any increase in bruising.

BTW --
He was pleased that I home-test & can adjust my own warfarin.
His thoughts about warfarin: "It's not rocket science." (DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
He also said that more patients %wise home-test in Europe than in the U.S.
I commented that diabetics do it all day long with their glucometers and no one gets concerned, but many doctors will not hear of warfarin patients home-testing and adjusting their dosages. He agreed.

If you are a statistician there is a statistically significan increase in the risk of the combination causing bleeding.

If you are a clinician there is no significant increase in the risk of bleeding.

The combination probably comes under the category "It probably won't hurt and it might help". Both benefit and risk are probably low.

I've been taking 81 mg ever since I quit taking a full strength aspirin (which was way before AVR).

My tubs of Marevan (Warfarin) have a sticker on them that says "Do not take aspirin while being treated with this medicine unless advised by your doctor".

As you have been advised by your cardiologist i'd say there is no issue.
