before i had avr, i suffered from regular migraines 1-2 a year (rare but severe). 3.5 months post op i've had a string of 7 occular migraines over the last 2 weeks. my migraines usually start will vision disturbances and conclude in a headache lasting the rest of the day with sensitivity to light/sound. i also became excessively out of breath during a ride this mornign - even after i stopped and recovered, i was out of breath riding at a pace far below my normal POST OP pace - and i hope there is no connection, but i will see the cardio tommorow. anyone notice a string of migraines in conjunction with something else?

I'm still getting the blurry vision at 6 weeks post-op, tho it is continuing to diminish. Its once or twice a week now, and lasts a few seconds to a few minutes.

I blocked each eye, and noticed that it always seems to be the left eye, and is more of a blind spot in that eye towards the bottom of my field of vision, rather than blurriness in the entire eye. The right eye is fine.

I wonder if this is related or similar: After my first op in 1982, I had nerve problems with my entire left side that took months, or maybe a year, to get fully better. At that time I had vision problems too, but they resolved after a few days post-op.

Has anyone else had these things in one eye but not the other?

^^ looks like you and i both had dr. smith play mr. potatoe head with our hearts around the same time. i feel like i just found a long lost cousin.

Occular Migraines

Occular Migraines

I have had migraines since a child. I on occasion get occular migraines but never get a migraine after an occular migraine. MY migraines are realy bad used to take Imitrex but my Cardio said no more. I have MVP with regurgation. Two years ago a surgeon wanted to operate on me. My Cardio thought I could wait beause of certain factors. While thinking about this a car hit me while walking on sidewalk that was 6 months ago. My leg was broken in 15 places, my shoulder was broken too and had scalp lacerations. Have had 3 cat scans and a MRI my headaches have gotten worse although the doctorts tell me nothing is wrong. My Cardio has told me that I will probably need valve repair in a year or 2 instead of the 5 years he orginaly thought. The accident has made every thing worse. Well I was tossed somewhere from 5 to 10 feet in the air. I know I am lucky to have survived and am able to walk on my own for about a month. I am just so afraid that something will go wrong and the thought of going into a hospital is just too much. I spent 2 weeks in ICU and 2 1/2 months in Rehab with accident. I am just too old for all of this (high 60's)

me too...

me too...

before avr in 1995 i had double vision. i would ask my doc about it,and he would say, ask your eye doc. i would ask eye doc, and he would say ask your doc. it was mostly just annoying, but sometimes very scary, like when it happened when i was in far left (fast) lane of i-91, doing about 75 mph, and all of sudden it would happen. and i would want to slow down. but i'd look in the rear view mirror and see not 3, but 6 lanes of very congested traffic behind me.

it went away with the avr, but started coming back a while ago. i was just diagnosed with an ascending aortic and arch aneurysm. think its related???

Sorry it has taken me so long to dig up the research between 5-HTP and migraines. If you want to read more, do a Scholar search on Google (http://scholar.google.com) and type in 5-HTP and migraine.

Wow - Harmony! I'm really sorry to read all that you've been through! As you continue to recover, I hope you will feel better each day. OHS may not be as bad as what you've been through with that accident. You're a survivor! Hang in there.

Bad migraines are no picnic either, are they.
