Just got back inside from howling at the moon I can't see for all the clouds.;) :D :(

Wanna meet halfway for some grog????????:D :D :D

I am in the mood for some CHOCOLATE grog! Or maybe alcoholic grog - seem to be out of both at the moment!!

Husband just brought warm cookies from the lobby. We were howling at the Cardinals (extended family from St. Louis), after howling at my daughter's victories in college volleyball, after howling at the sunset over the ocean...... I'm not sure I've got much howl left in me..... I will let you howl for me when you are done howling for you!! How's that? :D

Not too much moon to howl at tonight!! Long, cold, steady Fall rain allllll day.

The ocean view looks much nicer!!

I used to read "Where the Wild Things Are" to a two-year-old cutie named Christopher Austin when I was a teenaged babysitter. I love that book. You can see me doing the happy dance, but I'm also taking part in a wild rumpus!

I think we all need a warm, sun-soaked beach, a few margaritas (sp?) and a lot of friends to do that happy dance. Howling is optional but does help remove frustration.

Where should we go?

It won a place in my heart when I was small and occasionally lets itself out now and then. ;)

Oh Lordy Ross...Now your aging me....LOL

I can remember reading this book in elementary school....many many and did I mention many years ago?   :D :D :D It was an awesome book though to read..LOL. Harrybaby:D :D :D

Harry!!! Now you're ageing ME!! This book wasn't even written yet when I was in elementary school.....we're talking Run, Jane, Run!!!! But my kids did love it, especially the middle kid, come to think of it. Nice reminder of how different they each are!

Well, it's another beautiful sunny, brisk day at the beach. NO Margaritas for Margueirte....but some famous Oregon Coast Mo's clam chowder will definitely be on the menu for lunch (and proabably dinner!)

It is fun taking the laptop along!! :D

I have to second Marguerite's big "thank you". They may seem lame by today's standards, but I think we read much better than the kids coming out of school today. LONG LIVE DICK AND JANE!!!!!

Do kids coming out of school today READ:confused: or just compute? I have to force my boys to read books. I used to hide under the sheets with a flashlight and read when I was a kid - my kids sneak and play the playstation. They cannot imagine a world without video games, cell phones, computers.....

I was the same way about books - used to get yelled out for staying up. Always had to fight the librarian to allow me to take extra books out because I read them so fast and the library was a very long walk. Yes, back before kids were driven everywhere.

I was staying with my nephew recently and he had a book to read for school. He absolutely hated reading it and it was a fun book about Egypt and tomb discovery and such. But, boy, did he run to the computer when I stopped torturing him with the reading.

Really sad as it will change the imagination of generations. They are spoon fed the ideas of others rather than guided by the written word.

Okay - off my high horse now. Have to go and lecture/torture the neighborhood kids.;) :D ;)

Amazing!

Ross,
I HAD one of those nights last night. I was in my house, the dogs were barking, I went outside to check on my two big dogs. They were off in the distance, but close to me a small dog was attacking our cat. I tried to yell,
but I couldn't move or yell. When I finally did move, I went to the cat and kicked the small dog off of him. The dog had ripped the cat apart and the cat was still trying to fight off the dog with just its head and front paws.
It was just horrible! When the small dog was no longer attacking, I leaned down to pet my cats head and it just closed it eyes and purred. I then tried
to understand why my huge dogs had not protected my cat. I was so sad.
I woke up, it was 1:00, I didn't get to sleep till after 4:00.
Most dreams I forget right away, but this left a vivid memory.

I also read Dick and Jane in school, Weekly Reader, and some sort of folder thing, organized by grade and colors, where you read short stories and answered questions when you were done. Phonetics were something you studied along with reading and spelling, not instead of them.

But I was young enough to have Theodore Seuss Geisel and his Thidwick, Grinch, Yertle, and many other friends.

I read Where the Wild Things Are to my son, when he was small. By that age, I could recite both that and How the Grinch Stole Christmas for him by heart. I watched Captain Kangaroo. He watched Sesame Street. We watched Fraggle Rock and Ren and Stimpy together.

For my granddaughter, it's Goodnight Bear and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

There is acertain tucked away beach in Puerto Rico that I fell in love with when I last visited my daughter, granddaughter & son-in-law. I hope to be there for Christmas. Here is a picture my daughter sent me today as a reminder. This is high-tide. It will calm down in a few hours.

Ross, here is a bikini picture, but remember it is my daughter & granddaughter. (And her husband is a prize winning shot with his Colt 45 pistol). In fact, I think that's how he won the pistol!

I didn't have Dick and Jane. I learned to read with Alice and Jerry. Anyone else remember those books?
