I was wondering how many of you had which type of incision. I did not realize there were so many options. Just curious....

(hopefully the pic shows up, there are 4 and should be different colors.)

Thanks in advance.

My "Incision Preference" would have been ON SOMEONE ELSE'S BODY!!!!!:p :p

Infortunately, mine was "cut open like a chicken" as someone (I forget) here fondly likes to say. Of course, I do have an additional 3 inch incision on my left shoulder where they put the AICD.

May God Bless,

Danny

hahaha - I did leave that out of the running didn't I:D

I have the "red" incision along with numerous other holes.;) :D ;) I honestly don't care but I want the type of incision that gives the surgeon the best access to the surgical area. I would have left it up to the surgeon.

Justin had 3 of his OHS the red line down the middle, and his first one was the one that goes the whole way around the side and back, which BTW he was 5 lbs when he had that and his heart was the size of a walnut it still amazes me they were able to work in a tiny little heart like that especially in the 80's w/out all the technology they have now, Lyn

I have the yellow one for my AVR and then I have a smaller blue one for my pericardial window and then I have a longer RED one for my emergency OHS for the bleed after the window. I wonder what color my Valve REDO will be.

I have the big Ugly Red one. Turned out to be a very nice keloid as well. I had a reaction to the disolving sutchers.

I keep saying I'm gonna get a big tatoo and incorporate the scar into it.

lol Just kidding.

Ben

I had a mitral valve repair and it was essentially the red one, but not quite as high at the top and not quite as low at the bottom. Also a number of smaller ones below that from the pacemaker and tubes (from the original surgery and when I went back in to get "drained"). I wasn't provided any options, though....just woke up to whatever they needed to do.

haha. My husband had his big toe smashed in a lumber mill accident years ago. We always laugh that he should have a tatoo on his foot and make what is left of his toe a stump. Years later it is still so tender. Maybe you could have a zipper.....

Similar to Wayne, I have the red one, but much smaller than displayed. It is only about five inches, and starts at the bottom of the sternum. From my understanding, the healing process is somewhat quicker if you do not cut the whole sternum open. On the other hand, by cutting less, the surgeon has to put even more pressure on the bottom of the ribs to "butterfly" you open. This, understandably, causes EVEN MORE neck and shoulder pain when you wake up.

I'm glad I wasn't given a choice...

:)

Dick had the yellow onee- minimally invasive- never any pain from the sternum, but lots of shoulder pain. (never realized Mike that there was more shoulder pain because of the smaller incision!)

That's what the surgeon told me in my pre-op consultation. Of course, I've only been cut open once, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. Maybe I'm just a whiner...

:)

I have three of the red ones, one of the blue ones, and an 2 of the pacemaker defib ones which I will call pink since they are both females and another one the is an entire U shape under the breast. If I had to choose the one that hurt the least it was the U shaped one. The blue one continues to my back and up to my shoulder since they had to remove a rib. The green one is interesting and I have never heard of using an incision that far to the west. Oh dang now I know I am getting a green one.

I had the "BIG RED" one....and a matching one on my left inner forearm...They took an artery out of my arm for the By-Pass...I don't know if they wanted to keep it symmetrical or what but the arm and sternum are the same length...

REDTHEN an inch below that another one all the way to navel, different surgery, then one just under the navel, different surgery there, too - just all the way from up here to down there

Nope!!!

Not if is was on your kid! YOu'd be wishing it was back on yours, believe me!

Hey, Piper, dunno.........maybe if I could see your young male model there in person, I could decide more easily. :D Heehee!

As for Katie, we were never given a choice. Five times, smack down the middle with numerous chest tube scars for good measure. At the ripe old age of five, Katie is not the least bit ashamed of her battle scars. She runs around butt "nekkid" all the time..........not that I am recommending this for you, mind you. :D

I have read several of your posts here this morning - and have laughed until I cried. You are hysterical - and "little bit" there is AAAdorable - butt nekid or otherwise;) What a trooper!

I just wanted to say thanks - you have brightened my day....:)
Have a good one.....

about the adorable part! Yes, she is, but I'm a tad bit biased. ;)

Glad I could brighten someone's day. Now, if I could just get 11 more like you on my jury, I think I'd be in the clear! ;) Heehee! :D

Now, about that male model.................

Mine is blue. My incision is under my right breast (in the crease) along with a smaller incision near my right armpit. My hubby actually liked that my cup size in my right breast was a D post-surgery (from the swelling) and joked that while the surgeon was at it, he should've given me breast implants. Men!

What will be really interesting will be going back to work and having people ask me where my scar is. I think a lot of people still assume that all heart surgeries are of the open-heart variety. Think I oughta walk around in my bra and show them? I think I should wear high-collar shirts for a few days and then really freak 'em out when I wear a top that shows a little more "chest." ;)

Randy.. you will be very decorated after your next proceedure:)

I have several from my various proceedures, plus gall bladder surgery and 4 c-sections..
and mine is the 5in incision OHS scar.. plus the AICD on my left chest like Gadgetman and a few smaller ones from my pericardiocentesis

I kind of like the color coating.. :p
