Yesterday day was a good day for my aunt. She was quite coherent and spoke much plainer. My two sisters from northern Indiana came to see her. She was like a giddy school girl. Since this current doctor has taken over her care has taken a total turnaround. I talked to my mom about Hospice; she's interested but seems to take everything in so slowly. Monday we'll be working on getting my mom power-of-attorney.

Wise - very important: make sure the Power of Attorney is a DURABLE POWER OF ATTORNEY. I have one on my bro and some places won't take it because it's not a DURABLE POA (Social Security won't even accept a change of address - nor will his stock co). All I want to do is get his mail sent here, pay any bills due, answer any mail that needs a reply, because he's no longer at the other place. They won't do it, even tho he has dementia and can't take care of his bills and mail. Social Security wants a letter from a doctor stating he's mentally unable to take care of his affairs; the stock co wants a Durable with his fingerprints at the signature line. How in the world can he consent if he is demented!!!! So take heed and be sure it's durable poa. We have attorneys on this board and they will perhaps stop in and talk about the differences.

Good to know your aunt is responding well just now.

Yes, it is a Durable Power of Attorney. We got that done today. A nurse in OB is a notary and she came up and got my aunt to sign the form. That was a difficult thing to accomplish. She got the "S" and little scratch marks but it's official that Shirley signed it. My mother feels much better with that done; me too. Thanks for thinking of us Ann.

My aunt Shirley Ritchie passed away this afternoon at about 5:45. We were with her when she quietly and peacefully passed. No there's no more pain left for her to endure. I do have to say that the care she received in recent days was quite good.

I believe that your prayers made a difference and were very much appreciated. Thank you so much.

Wise,
I am so very sorry to hear this. However, it does sound like your aunt had a few really good last days with family. I am happy she was able to have a doctor that made her last days comfortable.
I hope your family is doing alright.
Take care.

I am so sorry................

I am so sorry................

Please accept my condolences. I love the description about how your aunt was giddy as a schoolgirl..........at least her final days were happy............and surrounded by family and friends..............can't ask for much more than that. You have our love and prayers. Janet

Wise, God always has the last word and we follow His plan. I am so sorry for all you are going through just now. At least toward the end she was able to be comfortable enough to enjoy the company of her family. You are in my prayers, especially your mother, because her sister can never be replaced by anyone else. From what you posted, it sounds like they have always been very close. God bless.

In answer to some thoughts/questions, the family is doing alright. We know where she is and that's comforting. It was a blessing from God she got to be with her closest family at the end; my mother and her children were IT....my aunt didn't have children...had been single for many years. My two sisters from Indiana and I are going with mom to make arrangements this morning. These two sisters had just returned from Indiana and were in the room for about two minutes before my aunt passed; my mother said "I think she was waiting for you."

God certainly does always have the last word!

Wise, you and your family will continue to be in my prayers during this time. Your aunt was very blessed to have a nephew like you. Your caring and concern for her showed in every post you wrote here. LINDA

So sorry about your dear aunt. You have my deepest sympathies. She was loved, and she knew it when it counted the most. God Bless you all.

I am so sorry to hear of your aunt's passing. I was glad to read that she had her family at her side and had a peaceful passing. My prayers for you and your family continue.
