    Week Old Hematoma

Last Sunday I slipped on a rug and slammed my butt into the sharp edge of the kitchen counter before falling to the floor. It didn't really hurt too much at the time, but by the next morning I had a large hematoma that became more painful throughout the day, so decided to play it safe and see...

    Buncle is Home

Buncle is out of the hospital and at home recovering. He said in his email that he is having wi-fi problems but will post soon. Apparently he has some stories to tell. He said he had two surgeries on the same day and almost bought the farm , but is doing better now and going to make it...

    Neurocardiology & Overcoming Depression

I am seeking to better understand WHY depression occurs after changes to the heart. The pump being used during OHS probably does account for some of it, but that doesn’t explain depression after heart attacks and bypasses. I’ve been googling and have come across some interesting sites. Here...

    Trouble putting thoughts into words

Do pump head or post-op depression typically occur soon after surgery? I am almost 3 months out and physically OK but increasingly having problems thinking clearly and expressing my thoughts. I am having a very hard time just writing this post. I could write page after page of the things...

    5 Weeks Post Op

Thanks to Ross for posting the updates sent by my sister-in-law the day of my surgery. I don't know why I've waited so long to start posting here again, other than it takes a lot of effort and concentration for me to compose my thoughts these days. I could blame it on pumphead, but I think it...

Should I buy a step stool?

This weekend I'm going to rearrange things at home to be within easy reach after surgery. I am thinking about getting a step stool with wheels so I can push it around the house with my foot and use it in various rooms. When I searched step stools on this site, it I just read about the...

Surgeon Charge for Medical Leave Paperwork????

I just called Dr. William Ryan's office to let them know I was getting ready to fax over my medical leave form and asked what the standard time off was that they put on the forms so I can be consistent with what I'm requested. I was told that they charge $25 to complete the paperwork. I said...

    Surgery Date

My AVR is scheduled for May 28. I'll need a CT scan of the aorta to check for aneuryms and possibly a 64-slice scan of the arteries if insurance will cover it. Hope to get that done next week. Just waiting on my HMO to pre-certify the scan. More later.

    Delurking Finally

Hi Everyone, I have been reading this board for a long time and have appreciated the great wealth of knowledge here. Thanks to some coaxing from Ross in another thread, I've decided to finally introduce myself. At age 6, I was diagnosed with AS and AI due to a bicuspid aortic valve and knew...
