Hi
I don't really post much, but I read almost every post. This site is great!
I was diagnosed with AI after my MV replacement surgery. I had to have my MV replaced because of the hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. I have looked back at some of my echos. There is no mention of AR on the echos before the surgery, but as you start to look at echos done after the surgery it goes from trace regurge to mild and now mild to moderate.

I had an appointment the other day because of this issue I have been having with SVT. When we went over the most recent echo, it showed a small paravalvular leak around my new MV. I know this can happen, so I am not all that concerned with it. Then they brought up the AI. They assured me that the valve is normal in every way, except it leaks a little and that I could go forever with the valve like this. I will have an echo every year and of course my check ups I just wonder why? Why is this happening now? Anyone else out have their MV replaced only to have their aortic valve act up, or the other way around

Thank You

I just had my echo done Friday. I'll get the report and let you know, but from my past years, after AVR, my Mitral leaked a bit more and last years showed a new finding of tricuspid leak also, so yes, it happens.

I'm three months post MVR and my TR was "trace" prior to surgery. Two echo's following MVR...one at 2 months post-op and the other at 3 both indicated moderately-severe tricuspid regurgitation. My cardiologist and surgeon said this should improve by 6 months post-op. I thought it strange too, but my surgeon says this can and does happen as the geometry of the heart changes and goes through some remodeling after OHS. We'll see? Keep an eye it!
