Hi, this is Brad's girlfriend, he asked me to post how his surgery went.
He went into surgery at 9:30 am this morning and was in the ICU ready for us to see him at 5 pm, nice and unconscious. I just got back from the hospital and they are planning on removing his breathing tube soon. He squeezed my hand and waved me out of the room.
The day before the surgery Brad, along with his surgeon and doctor, decided that the homograft would be the best option for him at the moment, with the mechanical valve being a viable second option if the surgeon thought that his aortic root couldn't handle another replacement. Luckily though everything went 'positively,' the homograft went in, and the surgeon is 'cautiously optimistic' about his pulmonary homograft doing well for awhile as well.
So he is doing well and hopes to be out of the ICU by Friday night. I know he appreciates all of your thoughts and kind words.
