Hi All

Just a note to let you know I spoke with Ross yesterday evening and he is coming home today. (Monday). He said the dr. is letting him out and Lyn will be picking him up after work---around 4:30 ish. He also said the swelling is still there, maybe down a bit but definitely still there and they don't know what else to do with him. He did sound good and anxious to get home.....of course we all know how much he wanted to go in there to begin with.

I told him everyone missed him and couldn't wait for the return of the Rossman.

On the other hand, my hubby, Tyce (AVR 2002) must have had sympathy pains for Ross because he was admitted to our local hospital yesterday with the same darned thing....cellulitis. It started in his elbow and he has absolutely NO idea where it came from....no dry/broken skin, no cuts, scratches....NOTHING. We hit the er yesterday morning where they gave him two 2.gram iv antibiotics, keflex to take at home and said it it was any worse to come back in....well, by afternoon the swelling had progressed down his arm and was quite red......so he's back in. I spoke with him this morning and he said he's getting IV antibiotics every 6 hours and the swelling had begun to recede.......

Of course, we WERE leaving for vacation tomorrow morning, but that looks like it's definitely not happening....no dog show for us in PA....but as long as he's ok it's fine....we can always have another dog show.

Just wanted to let you know about Rossman and Tyce....please keep them both in your prayers.

Evelyn

I've been waiting for your post. Glad to know you talked to Ross, too. We are all looking forward to him coming back tonight.

I am sorry to hear that Tyce is in the hospital with the SAME thing. at least you recognized what it was the other day and got him there early enough for it to be treated quickly. You are in my prayers, you know.

yes, vacations will still be there to take when things clear up. Keep us in the loop.

Well, darn! Tyce why did you have to go and do that?!

Seriously, we will be praying for Tyce and a very quick turnaround in his condition. Take care Evelyn.

Glad to hear Ross is better though.

Glad you caught it early, Evelyn and hope Tyce is on the mend and home soon.

Hope Tyce is feeling better soon. Thanks for letting us know about Ross and glad he is coming home.

Golly Evelyn,
We got good and bad news in one thread.:) :(
It great to know Ross is well enough to come home, but I'm sorry to hear about Tyce. My daughter had cellulitis last fall, and it can be very serious. I'm glad Tyce is receiving the treatment needed; it's nothing to fool around with.
Thanks for calling Ross.:)

Hi Guys

I just got back from the hospital. Tyce's elbow is looking less red, still swollen though. His lab work looks great and his inr is fine.....he's getting major antibiotics 4x daily IV. Our dr.'s partner (who I'm not really in love with) came in this morning with an infectious disease specialist, our cardio, a plastic, and someone else. Turns out both our cardio and the plastic gal are friends in addition to our physicians, so Tyce has been well visited.

The infectious disease specialist told Tyce that OHS patients are VERY prone to cellulitis....why, who knows, but they are. He also said that Tyce should use dove soap (which we do) because it has a skin moisturizer in it and use globs and globs of hand lotion on his hands, elbows, legs and feet and anywhere else where there is any dry skin. He said IF he gets even the smallest cut it should be cleaned thoroughly and bacitracin or some form of triple antibiotic ointment should be put on immediately as a precaution.

Sooooo, I'm passing that on to all of you who have had OHS. Be especially careful of any openings in your skin......

Evelyn:
Thanks for the news of Ross. Hip, hip hooray! On the other hand, so sorry that you will miss your vacation and the dog show. With your positive attitude, I know that you will make a vacation of staying home. Al and I are both sending wishes for a speedy recovery for Tyce. Al read your post and is now aware of the possible problems with OHS and celluitis. I see that Dove soap and neosporin are on the shopping list.

Sending you positive regards and good wishes,
Blanche

I am glad to hear Tyce is improving. Give him my best wishes.

I didn't know we are prone to infections. I use Dove as a face soap. Guess it's an all-over job from here on. I have really dry skin and some of the meds I take also cause it. In winters, being closed in warm homes, surely doesn't help skin any.

I keep some skin so soft (Avon) in a spray bottle to spray all over when getting out of the shower. It helps with the dry skin.

I am just plain flaky!

Well, dang, good news and bad news. Tell Tyce he doesn't need to do this to get your attention.;) :D ;)

Seriously, I am sorry to hear of Tyce's hospitalization and the postponement of your trip - bummer. I hope he is better very soon and you can get on with your travels.

Ross - get thee home and back with us - we love you and miss you.

I'm very sorry Tyce is going thru this but glad you caught it early. I hope it clears up fast and he is home soon too.I don't know if you every tried them, but bath&body works has a really nice line of antibacterial hand lotions that are really moisturizing and smell great, they usually are on sale for 3/10.
Do you do any of the Philly shows? we live about 10-15 min from there, I will keep Tyce in my prayers, lyn

Gosh, Evelyn I am so sorry about Tyce. Hope he gets better fast. Don't need anybody else in the hospital with cellulitis. Nasty stuff.

Evelyn, so sorry to hear about Tyce's cellulitis. It is truly nasty stuff and nothing to fool around with. I'm hoping the antibiotics kick in fast and work wonders. Even after cellulitis clears up the underlying and surrounding skin can permamently stay a deeper red color and often have a shiney appearance as well. I hope Ross and Tyce soon have this behind them.

Evelyn,

Very sorry about Tyce's round with cellulitis.

Thoughts/prayers coming his way....

Sorry to hear that Tyce has now gotten the dreaded bug...

I suppose we can all be thankful that this little episode has given us all some extra knowledge and tips in regards to OHS patients and our delicate skin...

Happy to hear the Rossman should be just about home and ready to hassle us all again.

Good Morning all

Thanks so much for all the good thoughts and well wishes. Spoke with Tyce this morning....he has a new roomie....a man with a MAJOR infection from a cat scratch. He said he got scratched by their cat about 10 days ago and from what Tyce said he has major swelling and red streaks running up his arm.

Hens, I always use skin so soft by Avon....whenever I get out of the shower I just slop it on....looks like that's what Tyce is going to have to do, too. He's going to call me when the Dr. stops by this morning and then I'll probably shoot up there about 11ish, so I'll fill you all in on his progress this later today. Personally, I don't think he's coming home today, but we'll see.

Many thanks for your prayers and thoughts....they're much appreciated.

Tyce, why you compete with me buddy? Cellulitis sucks! Beleive me, I'm doing the lotion motion and all that but still have no clue how I got this infection. There were no breaks in my skin that I or anyone else could find. Do what you must and get outta there and back with us!

ROSSMAN......YAAAAAY.....SO GOOD TO SEE YA POSTING AGAIN!!!

Tyce has no idea how he got this one either....just happened. I just got off the phone with him. Both the cardio and the internist have been there this morning. His cardio doubled his coumadin from 5 to 10 last night because his INR dropped to 1.8 as a result of the meds, etc. They're watching that for it to come up.....I'm just hoping the lab draws there are good. The cardio said that 3 days metabolism time is true for just starting on warfarin, but when you're on it, it comes up much faster.....I didn't know that and also don't know how much truth there is to that theory......I KNOW I'd trust Al before the cardio on warfarin matters, that's for sure.

Tyce's arm is down in swelling but is still tremendously red at the point of the elbow, so they're keeping him another day....good because our real dr. will look at him. With an INR of 1.8, I'd just as soon see him in the hospital for another day or so till it comes up.

Anyway, Rossman, I'm VERRRY glad you're home!!!! Keep on creaming. I missed you, my man.
