Hi All,
I am 1 year and 3 months post MVR. I had a very loud murmur before the replacement with a St Jude. I still have a mumur now, of course it's not as loud, but noticeable. I have been told it's nothing to worry about.

I was also told it was nothing to worry about 6 years before I had my OHS when a murmur was heard. I am just curious if it is common to still have a murmur after replacing the valve. Does anyone else have this?

Thanks
Tara

Good question ? I assume that the ?murmur? is the sound from regurgitation ?. So I guess there could be a slight sound of regurgitation ?. Don?t know but am interested in what our more learned member have to say.

A murmur is unusual after St. Jude replacement. Hearing a click is normal. If they are sure they hear a murmur you need an echo to make sure there is no leak around the valve.

My advice to you..

My advice to you..

Hi there. I don't consider myself to be very knowledgeable when it comes to murmurs, but what I can say out of own experience: the amount of back-flow of the blood (regurg) into Atrium is what counts. The best way to see if the regurg is mild, moderate, severe is by Echo or even better a TEE.

I am sort-of sitting in the same situation... I had mitral valve repair 6 months ago and now have mild to moderate regurg (GP could hear the murmur, but Echo shows back-flow of blood into Atrium)... only time will tell if I'll need surgery again...

My advice to you: schedule an appointment with Cardio to get ECHO done and let him grade your regurg.

All the best.;)

I think the last echo I had done said no evidence of mitral regurgitation by color flow doppler. It did, however, say moderate aortic insufficency by color flow doppler. I wonder if this is where the murmur is coming from.

When I asked I was told the mumur was coming from the mitral valve. It just makes sense that the surgery would have fixed the problem. I have an appointment at the end of the month. I'll be asking some questions!!

Thanks

My mom had an oinker mitral valve put in 3 years ago-they always hear a murmur on her, she has had echos done and they say she is doing fine.....Deb
