I may be 'all wet' ... (you know that phrase?)

Well Ann....

We had a small dairy on our farm when I was a kid.. and the way I remember it... the milking cows were the ?wet? ones and the ones not being milked were ?dry? ones... ya had to watch the ?wet going dry? ones for a while.. cause they would tend to develop a condition called Mastitis.. (or something like that) in their teats. My brother would give them shots with these humongous needles.

Princess Pfatbutt may need to verify this info..... I was pretty young at the time. :p

Yes, Rain - you are correct. The wet cows had nursing calves - and milk. The dry cows were yet to play around with yonder bull and after playing around with yonder bull, would soon be a mama and called a wet cow. And the mastitis was called 'milk fever' by some.

So when you hang out with the dry cows, you are free to play with yonder bull. :D

I thought we weren't allowed to talk about teats in this forum.
