I went to my cardio this morning had my level checked it was really high 8.0 he fianlly called at the end of the day said to withhold for 3 days is that normal to do that need some advice thanks chris

I wouldn't hold for 3 days. You'll swing the other way. It would be helpful to know what your dose is.

The most I would hold is 2 days and I am not even sure I would do that. I would probably hold 1 day, take 1/2 dose the next and adjust my weekly dose by 20%.

However, before any of the above, I would require a retest to make sure the test is valid. I always retest if my INR is above 5.0. The other importand thing is to determine just what caused the increase. If you have been steady up to now, there has to be some reason (illness, new meds, etc.) for your INR to rise so much.

about INR

about INR

I had some baklava maybe that set it off dont know

Chris, there's not any food I can think of that you could eat that would affect your INR that much. If food does affect INR, it's almost always to lower the INR. I wish food raised INR because it would be easier to raise a low INR, which most of us consider harder than lowering a high INR.

I can't help but think that you have something else going on that is causing your INR troubles. Please get a good physical with a good set of blood studies.

Stress can affect INR either way. But it won't do it to the extent to explain your 8.0

Maybe someday, but not at this point in time. All you can do is try it and see.
