I am heading to Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, for the Memorial Day weekend. Am trying to find a list of possible restaurants to try out. Will only be there 2 nights (Friday & Saturday).

I am going there for a cat show in Cambridge. I am usually judging at shows, and I'm looking forward to being able to show my cat (a blue Abyssinian).

Am flying to Detroit early Friday morning, should get to Kitchener mid- to late afternoon. Driving back to the Detroit airport Sunday evening and flying home Monday morning. Not a whole lot of time to explore the area.

If anyone knows of some great places to consider eating at, please let me know. Got an Ontario book from AAA yesterday, but it's pretty brief on offerings in Kitchener. I would prefer names of locally owned places rather than "touristy" places.

Where are you staying .....sadly Sharon and I have a very busy weekend and I have not been able to clear any of it up (just got busier) .....

we have gone to http://www.charcoalgroup.ca/?ww_pageID=A6748D6C-B6A7-8AA0-6688F45DFAC3A117
Our favorite is http://www.golfssteakhouse.com/index.php?section=43 and

for "family" type dining (breakfast and casual dining)
http://www.countryboyrestaurant.ca/
and
(no web page) but http://www.restaurantica.com/on/kitchener/the-fireside-family-restaurant/23404378/

These are "local" venues but Prime Minister Stephen Harper surprised diners at Country Boy http://www.therecord.com/news/local/article/874373--pm-surprises-diners-at-kitchener-restaurant (read PM wades into the common mans pool for a photo op)

Greg:

Thanks for the info!
I've been doing a lot of online research, but haven't found much. Will check out these links. A co-worker is from Toronto, still has Canadian citizenship, and has told me a little. I'm staying at the Residence & Conference Centre in Kitchener -- a special deal for the show, 2-bedroom accommodations with kitchenette. Patio with some nice propane grills and picnic tables, so you can grill something. The hospitality area has 2 stoves + fridge for cooking, etc. Great website with 360-degree cams to see the guestrooms and public areas. Hope I have a very quiet, uneventful weekend, unlike my trip to Sturbridge, Mass., during a blizzard (Nemo) in February.

I will definitely consider Golf's Steak House for Saturday night -- online menu looks very good, affordable and you get the salad bar -- and also the Country Boy Restaurant, for soup & a Greek salad Friday night.

Yes post pics of your kitty and the great win(s) I hope you get! Nothing like a great win at a show. When my fox terrier pup beat the specialty winner at her first show, I was thrilled!
Abby's are so beautiful!
