Well, since I finally figured out how to start a new thread, I can let everyone know I'm great and recovering at a good rate. Between naps, pills, going for blood tests, walking, etc. it's been hard to find time to live.
Had my surgery on 2/13 and it went well. As I was being wheeled into surgery think God bent down and kissed my eyelids shut so I would have a peaceful slumber until the worst was over. I had surgery on Friday and do not remember a thing until sometime late Monday, even though I was sort-of talking to people and answering questions. I stayed in the cardiac intensive care from surgery to when I got more fully awake on Monday (without any tubes or wires--ok, maybe one or two wires left).
I did have some pain with the top of my incision...had a reaction (but no infection) to the first stitch. Spent an extra day in the hospital so could take some IV antiobiotics. The rest of the time in the hospital went quickly...had some far out dreams a couple times but other than that and all food except milk tasting like cardboard, it went great. I don't even drink milk as a rule but once I found out it tasted normal, it was my staple of choice for a few days.
MY VALVE DOES NOT CLICK! Whoopee! It wasn't a big concern but since it wants to sit quietly doing its job,I'll go for that. Did have some of the feeling of my heartbeat in my ears and head for a few days, but that has almost gone away.
I'm trying to walk at least 45 min a day in two sessions and think the taste of food began coming back some today.
To all of you proponents of the mechanical valve, I'm glad you were there for support. After having gone thru this once, I can do without a repeat. Even though I didn't have much discomfort and only took 1 pain pill after I came home, once was enough.
For now I'm going to sit here at the bottom side of the mountain and enjoy the view. Soon I will find more mountains to climb.
Take care all and thank you for all your support and positive energy during my surgery and stay in the hospital.
