Recently diagnosed BAV with 3.9 cm aneurism. I lost some weight and my pressure is good, usually 126 over 75. My doctor says to stay on Metropoprol even though I don't like it. What is best pressure with this situation? I take 25 mg and I am around 118 over 72 although sometimes it goes down to 108 over 68.

Is he keeping you on it to keep BP low or to keep rhythm normal? For me, it's the latter. I am on metoprolol 25 mg/day with a BP of about 82/60. For me it has nothing to do with BP. NOTE: My BP has always been that low...pre-surgery with no meds and post surgery with or without meds. I had my mitral valve repaired in February.

Keeping bp low is a priority for people with aneurisms. It's thought that betablockers slow the growth of an aneurism, so many patients are prescribed meds to lower bp, even if their normal bp is not high.
