Hi.....I have been a member of this group for a number years. Have a St Jude's mechanical due to a congenital bicuspid valve. Been fine all these years taking only the Coumadin. Then my last echo showed the root expansion. After CT is shown to be about 4.9. Visited surgeon at cardio's suggestion. Surgeon put me on .25 Atenolol. New CT in Oct to check growth rate. Wondering what kind of side effects people are having. I am a small person so sometimes may be bothered when someone else would not. Just wondering what to expect. Package says to take AM. Why not take PM when I take Coumadin? Does anyone know if that matters? If any side effects, seems sleeping through them would be best. I have a 9-10 hour work day and just am concerned about taking a new medication in the AM. Thanks for "listening" and let me know if there is anything I should be aware of. :confused2:

I was put on Atenolol 50mg about a week ago. It's supposed to lower your heart rate. Mine went from 100 to 70. I didn't notice a difference, in how I feel. It can lower your blood pressure. I take it in the morning. Your BP drops at night anyway, so taking it at night may not be ideal. No problems so far. On 25mg, you should do just fine.

I have been on 25mg Atenolol for +/- ten years. I was put on it, along with Lisinopril, for hi-blood pressure. I have never noticed any side effects or effect on my activities (golf, gym, etc.), although it lowered my HR to the 50s-60s.
