I am now almost 7 weeks post-op. A couple of weeks ago, I developed bronchitis. After a number of days, my temperature, (which had been from 99.5-100.2 during the illness) was normal for over 24 hours. I felt better, and planned on resuming normal life.

All of a sudden my temperature went up to 100.2, was sweating profusely, my pulse rate spiked to 122, and I went into A-fib. My husband took me to Tampa General Hosptal, which is no CC, by a long shot.

I was in the hospital from Tuesday/Saturday. An I.V. infiltrated, and my arm is still swollen, but there is no infection. I have a lesser swelling in my other arm, also from IVs. I was being given vancomycin and amiodarone IV, which are both like Drano to the blood vessels.

I was being given lovenox by injection to my stomach, as an ultrasound indicated that I had a small clot in my arm. I was warned not to rub the site, as it would cause bruising. I didn't, and I still look like I was punched in the belly.

I am home on amiodarone, clindamycin, and coumadin. At the site of my last belly shot,it took all day for it to clot.

I am a bit concerned about the coumadin, and how long it took for the injection site to clot. Will call my cardio tomorrow, but otherwise I feel ok. I am angry that my my recuperation from the surgery has been lengthened. Damn, I wish I were still in Cleveland, but that is impossible.

Have any of you gone through similar post-op problems, especially A-fib, after being OK for over a month?

As they say, "besides THAT, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?":D

Is that an I (eye) or an L. If the drug in your stomach was an L - I'm guessing Lovenox - which is a fast acting low-molecular weight heparin (an anticoagulant). If it is - they were giving this to you to get your blood anticoagulated until the Coumadin reached the correct INR. This was given to you because of the a-fib.

They didn't want you to rub the injection site because it would have spread the Lovenox around and you would have gotten a lovely bruise.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yes, it was Lovenox. I did a little Googling around, found the name of the drug, and amended my post.

It's totally possible to get a bout of afib clear out to 3 months, so that would be a yes. Hopefully this is the last bump you face.

Prayers you are doing better daily and what a great discription
