Just wondered if anyone else is experiencing chest pain?

I think I have angina but it is always difficult to explain a pain to others.

I have been given a GTN spray which I have uses and I think helps but I also worry that it is pyschological
and I should just get on and put it to the back of my mind.

Any thoughts?

For me, I think the chest pains are a "byproduct" of my surgery(splitting the sterrnum and wrenching the chest and back muscles???). I guess I've had them for many years because I mentioned it to my doc a couple decades ago and he prescribed Nitroglicerin tablets for me......I never took any of them LOL. Usually they are worse in cold, damp weather or when I've not been very active......but they are always more of an "ache" than a "pain". The normal advice is "if in doubt, check it out" with a qualified MD.

Lucky,

I was experiencing shortness of breath and angina when my replacement valve became calcified and very narrow. Further tests showed it was time for another surgery. This may not be the case for you. Has your cardiologist conducted tests and ruled out all the possible causes for angina?

Glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) should be sprayed under the tongue and my question is ...do you recieve relief when you do? Even so, as Dick siad your mantra should be "if in doubt , check it out".

Thanks Greg,
I have used the spray and it does seem to help but I am just feeling off at the moment.

I was checked out in local hospital on Monday when the pain was really bad but perhaps I am just fighting a virus.
Anyway just being sensible, taking it easy and will see Dr next week if things don't settle.

Hi Lucky,

Can we explore the chest pains your are experienceing a little bit more if you don't mind, and then it might (and I stress might) be possibel to provide a useful comment or two for you.

1. What are you doing when the chest pains come on (ie doing an activity or just at rest or in bed)
2. When you do get the pain, does it come on mild, and gradually build up over a few minutes, or is is suddenly bad an stays bad without changing?
3. If you were to describe the location of the pains, where abouts exactly on your body are they, and does the pain also seem to simultaneously elsewhere in your body.
4. When youa re having the pain doesanything make the pain worse or better. Is the pain affected by burping or moving.
5. When you have the pain can you touch the pain and push at the site and make it worse?
6. TYpically, how long would it last for from start to finish? and do you get noticably sweaty when you have the pain and do you notice your heart beating any differently, such as buterflies fluttering in yoru chest as well?
7. Can you exert yourself when walking without experiencing any symptoms, or do you easily get breathless or develop chest pain?
8. Have you ever had a heart attack in the past?
9. When in hospital did they do a 12-lead ECG (in fact a few 12-lead ECGs), and also a blood test looking for cardiac biomarkers (typically tropinin etc)..and do you know the results?
10. and thats just for starters Lucky....sorry for the probing questions, but its all part of building up a picture...oh, and approximately how old are you, are you male or female, are you a smoker or non smoker?

Well, I guess you asked for some "thoughts", and I will gladly give you my thoughts once in posession of some further information.... if thats ok Lucky. You can send me a personal email if you prefer to answere these questions

BUT...if you develop chest pain that does not go away after about 5 or 10 minutes and does not go away after 1 or two puffs of sublingual glycerol trinitrate medication, (but never use this medication if you have taken viagra (sildenafil) in the past 24 hours) and you should take an aspirin by chewing it around in your mouth (if you are not allergic to aspirin that is and not if your doctor has said you must'nt take aspirin for some reason), and then...call an ambulance. Those boys and girls will look after you and get you to the hospital to investigate the source of the pain.
