finally have a home test device

My Coagucheck XS came with a box of Accuchek softclix and they are working fine. The RN who trained me on device use (and I think the product instructions too?) said that it is best to use setting 5 on the little penlet lancet device. I hope that helps.

    Coaguchek XS replacement

Recall!? Hmm....considering I just got mine, I hope I did get the newer, latest/greatest one.

CoaguChek S - is anyone using one?

I've been away from the forum for awhile (relocating to OKC took most of my time and attention recently) so am just now seeing this. I did not realize that there were 2 different versions of the coaguchek machine, but having just gotten the XS model, I am very glad I did get the latest and...

Severe LVH caused by AS - Any info welcome

I had it, and it has improved now that I have my new mechanical valve. There has been some research done that indicates that if any regression of the hypertrophy is to occur, it normally takes anywhere from 6 months to a year. It may not completely go back to normal, but once your valve has...

Metobolic Cardiology,,, is this hope or fiction - please discuss

You were very smart to get off of the statin. ('I didn't have problems until I started taking statin drugs in 2007.') When the statin drugs first were developed, I believe by Merck(?) they had found that the drug increased the need for CO Q10, and patented a formulation of drug plus the CO Q10...

    I am moving on!!!!!

I cannot think of any better way to say it that jkm7 did, so am echoing! I read recently that sometimes having a major health crisis can be a catalyst in someone discovering that there is a toxic relationship that needs to be ended. Divorce is not fun, never easy, always an unfortunate...

Tissue vs. Mechanical - terrified and confused

What Bill said is worth repeating "Anyway, most of us have BTDT and sincerely sympathize with your situation. Just remember, ultimately you will do well and your life will be saved by this operation." In most cases, the surgeon may have to make a judgment call on what valve is best upon seeing...

    muscle pain from statins use

IMO, I would never take a statin even if someone was going to pay me big bucks. That class of drugs is extremely dangerous. Consider for a moment, that your heart is a muscle. A drug that causes muscle pain in the muscles you can perceive as experiencing pain surely also is damaging the most...

    Need advice on Oklahoma City

Thanks Larry, I will be in OKC, working at Tinker. I guess a drive up to 30 miles each way is max, less is certainly preferable.

    Niaspan

Why don't you just go online and research the best food sources of that vitamin and just eat more of it? I believe Niacin is B1? Or, if there is some other reason your Dr. feels you must use the med form, discuss adjusting the dosage or the timing of it.

    Need advice on Oklahoma City

I might be starting a new job in OKC, and my Husband will follow along later after we get Omaha house sold. (He is older than I and semi-retired and the work he does can mostly be done via telecommuting if he wanted to continue it.) I would love to have any advice, including on Doctors, both...

Should I switch from Lipitor to Zocor??

Anyone on statins, be sure you are supplementing with CoEnzyme Q10. Sorry I don't have time to write more right now, but a search engine is your friend on why.

    heat and humidity

IMO, you need to contact OSHA immediately! That is an unsafe working condition.

    Emergency Appendectomy or Cruise?

Yikes, so glad you got that taken care of but what a bummer on the timing. Did the Doctor stick around long enough for you to knock him upside the head for telling you you need a valve replacement!? I hope he was joking, seems like you've had enough of those already.

    What type of valve replacement

FWIW, I am very glad I have a mechanical valve, as there is very little chance that I would need it to be replaced. The Coumadin issue has not been a problem either, so am now kind of curious what kind of problems the OP (original poster) is having with that? I was worried about that ahead of...

Brain Fog? Could it be beta blockers? Anxiety?

LOL BarbJean, on the 'I get brain fart/fog too, but I think that comes with being 58 now' - I am right there with you!

Brain Fog? Could it be beta blockers? Anxiety?

Please re-read what I found about Concerta. Whether that drug contributes to his brain fog or not, it is documented to be dangerous for anyone with a cardiac abnormality. That is in message post 12. Good luck to you and Colin and keep us posted!

    Effects of Amiodarone pre-surgery

That is weird you have to take it in advance, and if for some reason you have to stop it, they can get you up to proper circulating level via IV. I think that is a drug that should be taken with food, and the warning I had with it was never to eat grapefruit or to drink grapefruit juice while...

    Vocal Paralysis

Some of the exercises I remember involve long drawn out vocalizations of vowels, with changing from one pitch to another. I am sorry that I don't know how having a totally severed nerve will affect the ability to regain control though, good luck and keep us posted! (What a bummer to have had...
