    Anemia and AVR

During my stay, after my 2nd AVR, My tast and smell went all out of whack. Nothing tasted like it should. Citrus juices, which I love, tasted awful. The smell of hand sanitizer gel made me nauseous. It took a while, but things went back to normal.

    Anemia and AVR

I had my third AVR 14 months ago. About a month ago, my CBC showed low hemoglobin levels, so my GP put me on iron supplements. Last week, my hemoglobin levels dropped further so my GP referred me to a hemotologist. Tentative diagnosis is either hemolytic anemia or B-12 deficiency (or both). I...

    Reops with mechanical valve

On my second Mech Valve On my second Mech Valve My first AVR was a mech in '96. It only failed 9 years later from bacteria, (possibly from a dental infection), eating away at the sutures. It was replaced in '05 with a porcine valve and a pacemaker. In Feb of '09, they detected regurgitation...

What qualifies as a Tawdry shirt? What qualifies as a Tawdry shirt? Actually, I can provide my own shirt if i have one that qualifies as being tawdry enough. Where do i post the pic, once I've taken a suitably tawdry exposure? Roger

    Deep Anesthesia Dreaming

I don't recall any dreams I've had while under anaesthesia, but I'm nearly certain that I did. and just don't remember them. Once, while coming around after a colonoscopy, my first words were "Penny Marshall".

    Deep Anesthesia Dreaming

Welcome to the site. While doing research for my first s/f novel (which i am still re-writing) I learned how to initiate lucid dreams (where the dreamer is conscious that they are dreaming and, in most cases, can control the dream). After my first St Jude AVR in '96, I ceased being able to 'go...

    Back to the ER

Not sure what it was. Possibly a bug bit that I didn't feel. The moist warm compress seems to be bringing the swelling down.

    Back to the ER

Back in the ER Back in the ER It actually started before we arrived at her place, but my wife's family is saturated with members of the medical profession narrowed it down to cellulitis or allergy. I've had it on moist heat treatment this morning and there is improvement. That and the meds...

When you were a youngster, did you ever put a latex glove on your hand and inflate it just enough that the palm and digits got fat and made it look like an inverted cows udder? [Like me, you probably had a lot of free time, huh?] Well, I sort of did that today, without the benefit of the latex...

    I'm out!

It may take a week or two, but you'll get used to the ticking. Drove me nuts for the first three or four days. Then I started using it to take my pulse. Valve # 2 was a porcine and didn't hear it at all. With #3, a mechanical, I occasionally hear a tic or two. most of the time, i just hear a...
