    Back to Work :(

I think it is quite normal to reassess your life after going through something major like this. If you don't, you're really missing out on an opportunity to do so. For my wife and I, we decided it was time to finally start a family and now she's due in a few weeks. As a matter of fact, as I...

Over the years, has your Aortic Root changed or stayed relatively the same?

I was 33 when I had my aneurysm repaired along with my valve, about nine and a half months ago. I did not live a very active lifestyle but I did partake in a few sports in high school plus practiced martial arts for eight and a half years. In the past twelve years before my surgery, I did not...

    Red beans and rice?

I'm half polish/austrian, what can I say? ;) It is gooooood stuff. My wife's part German and I've had to slowly get her adjusted to the "good stuff" like kielbasa and pierogi's. But yeah, smoked sausage works just as well, I just like the flavor of kielbasa slightly more. I suppose it is an...

    Red beans and rice?

Whatever you do, try slicing up some sausage or kielbasa to go in it. :) Eckrich makes a good brand called Healthy Ones, which used to be the old Healthy Choice Polska Kielbasa and Smoked Sausage. It is _very_ low in fat, made mostly of turkey and tastes great. It does have a bit of sodium...

    shooting sports?

Hmmm... It has been 6 months since my surgery and I haven't been to the range yet with my Steyr AUG. Man, I miss shooting that thing. :) I suppose by now I should be able to shoot it without too much soreness. I totally missed this thread. As soon as the wife gives birth (in February), I'm...

waiting vs. electing surgery now for your aneurysm

I just saw the thread, as it has been a while since I've been here. Bigred, I would be concerned about the pain that you are having. I had surgery back in April to correct a 5.6 cm Aneurysm but here's the thing: I had been living with a 4.5 cm enlargement (or Aneurysm) for the past 3 years...

    Surgery done, worst thing?

The waiting, that was the worst part. I'd say the second was getting sick and throwing up due to a bad case of thrush caused from the breathing tube only 3 days after surgery. THAT HURT!!!!!

    Okay another Question: Comfort Level

I would be sitting in a chair all day and afraid to much of anything physical with an aneurysm that big. Mine grew from 4.65 cm last summer to 5.6 cm by February in less than 8 months and I wasn't that physically active. Take it easy, rest, you might even take time off from work and have...

    Trans-oesophageal echo (TOE) Question

I was wide awake for my TEE. It isn't that bad, you might gag a bit, but other than that it isn't bad at all.

    Sternum thumping update

I've got the thumping now myself after having my ascending aorta repaired a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't really bother me as I know my heart is beating when I hear it. As far as if it is normal or not - I have no idea.

    Occasional Irregular Heartbeat Post Op?

I met with my cardiologist today and he did an EKG on me. He said that it was skipping beats and they were pvc's and was not concerned about it. He upped my Toporol from 75 mg to 100 mg and had them do some bloodwork on me. He thinks that it is possible that my potassium is low along with my...

    Occasional Irregular Heartbeat Post Op?

I did have a bit of chocolate ice cream, chocolate covered nuts and chocolate chip cookies yesterday before all this started. I also had a couple chocolate chip cookies today. I don't drink caffein at all but I do drink decaffeinated tea. A bigeminy is exactly what I get. It will go normal...

    Occasional Irregular Heartbeat Post Op?

I called the doctor on call and they said that it is probably okay, though, if my heart starts racing, I feel dizzy or my blood pressure drops, or it does it more than five times in a row then I should come in to get it checked out. I am seeing my cardiologist tomorrow so I'll see what he says...

    Occasional Irregular Heartbeat Post Op?

Found this old thread: Since surgery I have had a normal sinus rhythm of between 80 - 100 bpm. I woke up today and my rhythm has been off all day. It will beat normal for a few beats, then pause and beat four times with pauses between beats, then beat normal for a few, then perhaps beat twice...

    Newby looking for info.

Joe, if your ascending aorta is enlarging and you are faced with repairing or replacing your BAV - I would urge, if not insist to a surgeon to repair your aorta while he is in there. I've met one person personally that had their valve replaced with a mechanical 20 years prior only to find out...

I have had a bicuspid valve my whole life...

Yup, I've had my surgery and it was two weeks ago. :) Read all about it here: http://www.valvereplacement.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30436 I ended up going with the surgeon's and Cardiologist's recommendation, which was to try and repair the valve. I put a stipulation in, that if they...

    weaning from narcs

Cut them cold turkey. The morning I was walking around thinking I was still in a dream before realizing after 20 minutes that I was really awake was too much for me. I've been on Tylenol and Ibuprofin for the last five days and it has worked pretty good for me. I hurt, but - I'm not high and...
