Long time no see.. but have question

Thank you all for your replies; as ever, your help and advice is invaluable. As to a Holter monitor, I did actually have one for a month when I was newly diagnosed as I had one very severe episode in hospital and it was thought I'd had a stroke. I suspect I had a TIA although my collective...

Long time no see.. but have question

Hello all, so sorry I've not visited for such a long time. I'm rather afraid I'm a fairweather friend at VR as I seem to only come by when I have a question... and I have a question :( Since I was first diagnosed with left sided heart failure - due to mitral and aortic regurg - I've had random...

    symptoms after exercising

Marilyn, could it be that your discomfort is muscular relating to the exercise rather than 'heart' type pain? I only ask because I get lots of aches and pains the day after playing squash but I can readily discern mine as being muscular as opposed to the dragging discomfort from heart/lung...

    Echo results...

I have a mild leak in my Tricuspid valve but my doc reckons that everyone has some amount of leak in any valve, so while it sounds alarming, it's actually something that lots of people have for their entire lives without knowing it and it causes no harm :-) Hope that helps! Lynn

    Can I get some advice?

Thank you all so much for your advice and Norma, thank you for your lovely words too :-) I haven't asked if there's anything like cardio rehab, but, given the state of the NHS, I'd be inclined to bet it's only for inpatients and/or people who've had heart attacks, but I'll certainly ask. It's...

    Can I get some advice?

Hi all, thanks so much for your replies, it really helps to hear your opinions and experiences. The problem with my doctor is that he says I should be asymptomatic - and therefore won't entertain the fact that I'm not - so any discussion about how it's changed my life or impacts on my life is...

    Can I get some advice?

Hi all, at present, my latest echo shows that I have mildly leaky tricuspid, mild to moderate mitral leak and moderate to severe aortic leak... however, I want to start doing physical exercise again, but I don't know what I can or can't do. I've asked my doctor and he was totally evasive and...

My doctor is not listening to me!!

Lori, I sympathise entirely. With many doctors, anything you see seems to bounce off their eardrums. It's very annoying and though it's probably no help, you're not alone :-) Lynn

    pins & needles?

Hi all, thanks so much for all your replies. I think judging by everyone's experiences overall, it sounds more like a nerve issue but I will mention it to the cardiologist and see what he has to say. Thanks again for all your kind replies, Lynn

    pins & needles?

Hi everyone, thanks so much for taking the time to reply and good luck Dina! I spoke to my GP this morning and he's arranging for me to see my cardio so I'll hope to get some answers then. I've not had any increase or change in meds at all for ages so I guess it's not that... Hopefully a new...

    pins & needles?

Hi Colleen and Ross, thanks so much for your replies. Ross, I'm taking Ramipril, Bisoprolol, Simvastatin, Lansaprosole, Ropinerole and when I feel I need it, Furosemide. I'll look up peripheral neuropathy now :) Thanks again guys Lynn

    pins & needles?

Hi all, hope everyone's doing ok? Sorry I've not been around much of late - we've been in Spain with limited net access but it was so worth it ;) However, since returning, I've found I'm getting an increase of symptoms - fatigue, breathlessness, palpitations etc - so I'll be going to see my...

Difference between Europe and North America

For my two cents-worth, I've found that the doctors are always those available, i.e., we don't get to choose - and you can only change if you ask for a second opinion or have an otherwise good reason to - and as to valve selection etc., it tends to be that we're offered whatever the surgeon...

    Feeling a little emotional now

Finally made it - we're in Spain!

Hi all, sorry I've not been around much but that's because we're on our first 3 month stay to Nerja in Spain which is for the purpose of ending up living here! I can't tell you how much better I feel already. In fact, if you've got a spare half hour and feel like it, have a look at my Nerja...

Are low carb diets a bad idea?

Sorry if I've started a diet war guys but I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the advice, links and alternative opinions. It all helps to provide a balanced overview which I was lacking before. Thanks again to you all for your invaluable help :-) Lynn

Are low carb diets a bad idea?

Hi all and thank you very much for all your replies; I'm very interested to see the other diets and how effective they are. I'll be looking into them for sure. I only really need to lose two stone to be at my ideal weight so I guess the attraction for me with Atkins is that it always comes off...

Are low carb diets a bad idea?

Hi all, I hope I'm putting this question in the right place but what I want to know is, are low carb diets such as Atkins a particular risk to people with heart problems, specifically, me? :) I've piled on weight since I stopped work and can't shift it with low fat diets but previously, I had a...
