    TAVI report

Last week, I had AVR via TAVR/TAVI. While it was nothing compared to OHS, it was not a pain-free experience (although I have a low pain tolerance threshold). For others that may have TAVR, here are notes about my experience. I am about 25 years younger than the typical TAVR patient...

    TAVI scheduled

I am finally scheduled for TAVI next week. I will post a follow up once everything is over. It has been an “adventure” getting to this point. It started in January with a referral from my cardiologist to a surgeon at the same hospital group for AVR. The effects of radiation therapy 40 years...

How does a tissue valve fail / wear out?

Even though I am only 55, due to complications from radiation therapy and other factors, my surgeon is recommending a TAVI/TAVR instead of OHS and a valve replacement. Since this will include a tissue valve, and I hope to live beyond the typical valve lifetime, I was curious how a tissue valve...

    TAVI post hospital recovery time

Due to complications from radiation for Hodgkin's, my surgeon is leaning toward TAVI for me vs full AVR. He did not have a feel for post-hospital recovery time before I could return to work, as most of his TAVI patients are older and already retired. I would appreciate input from anyone that...

    On-X survey

Has anyone done the On-X survey, from the ad on the forum? $200 sounds great, but I am concerned on how intrusive the questions are and if it requires input from the surgeon. I was considering doing the survey after I have a date set for the AVR surgery.

    Statistics on AVR operations

Is there a good source for statistics and information on AVR surgery? The numbers I have seen are 60-80,000 operations per year, with ~1% fatality rate. I have significant stenosis as a result of radiation for Hodgkin’s, which I have been told makes thing much more complicated. (This is one...

What activities / toys are good for the recovery period ?

I will be setting a date for my AVR next week and was thinking ahead to the at home recovery period. What are good activities and "toys" to fill the time? I'm sure I'll catch a few things on Netflix, but don't want to spend the entire time just watching TV. I do plan to get a few good books...

    Another new member

I am so glad to have found this forum. It has been enlightening to read about others with a similar history (Hodgkins with radiation therapy in mid-70s). I had my first heart issue in the mid-80s with a brief bout of pericarditis. I had a stent in ’96, then nothing until a few years ago...
