    Six years ago today

Six years ago tonight I was on a vent in the ICU. Glad it is 6 years later! Very grateful to be here and MV repaired. Quite a few cardiac issues since the day of surgery but things have been going well for a while now. Just wanted to share the day with all of you.:

    Ptsd

I have actally heard more about PTSD after OHS in the past week than in the past 6 years. Tomorrow is my 6 yr anniversary and I have been keeping busy all day today. Took off work tomorrow and planning a nice day celebrating the fact that I am still here and my heart is in good working order...

Back to surgery - at 7 months

I also agree that it is a good thing you went to the doctor. Things could have gotten worse without you knowing about it. Thankfully, the surgeon will be able to fix the problem, you will heal and put this behind you. Wishing you an easy wait and good recovery.

Thank you all so much for sharing with me. I always have felt like I am alone in dealing with these feelings. I used to post here all of the time but time has gotten so tight I don't get on the computer as much as I used to. It is so helpful just knowing there are other people who have had OHS...

    Ptsd

I don't know who else to ask about this at this point so I will put it out to you all. I had OHS for mitral valve repair Aug '05. The workup started the middle of July '05 and the conclusion blew me away. I needed surgery for replacement or repair of the valve. There were problems, of course...

    Dazed and confused

I also had little time to adjust to the need for surgery. I had always been told I would not need valve surgery due to mild mitral regurg. July '05 I was told I needed valve surgery sooner, not later. Aug 3rd I met the surgeon and Aug 15th had the surgery. For me too it was a whirlwind but...

    I need to vent

I Had the same type of problems after my surgery. I agree with both the bean bag and the recliner. Some days there was no place I could get comfortable but in the recliner. It will get better with time. Sorry you are hurting.

    still having post op issues

Adding my 2 cents. Pleurisy does refer to the lungs-not just from being cut open. Maybe it will get better on it's own but sounds like the amount of pain you are having is not just normal postop pain. If the pain does not start to improve I would keep at them until the docs do something.

    4 Years, 2 months

I wasn't able to post on this forum when I celebrated my 4 year anniversary. I am happy to be back online with VR. Things with my heart have been going very well. I am grateful every day that I saw the doctor for a cardiac workup after 5 years. They caught the changes in the valve just in time.

    TakeStock Surgery Story

I am so glad you are done with your actual surgery and now just have to deal with recovery. You were able to write a good report of the events so soon after the surgery. I did not get any Versed so I also remember most of my experience. Anyway, like I said it is so nice on this side of the...

    miserable, can't breathe

So glad you are feeling better. Just take it easy, one step at a time and keep writing online.

    Robin Williams

I had read that he needed the surgery but didn't see anything in the paper until today. Glad he made it over the mountain and is recovering. I doubt even he was doing comedy 2 hrs after OHS. We all know the truth of what he is going through. I had also read that his brother died during OHS a...

    Out of Toprol

There is a recall due to manufacturing of Metoprolol Succinate not being up to standards. The Metoprolol Succinate is the generic for Toprol XL. The subsitute is Metoprolol Tartrate which is a shorter acting drug and must be taken twice a day to get the same benefit as the Toprol XL or...

Hello, I'm new and I'm scared!

Hi John, Just want to add my welcome to you. I didn't find this site until after my surgery when I was feeling like the only person in the world to have had valve surgery. I am a nurse also and had taken care of people with OHS but never thought it would be me. I was always told that my mitral...
