    Anniversary

Hi amy Hi amy Sorry to hear about the 'severe" stenosis, mine was merely moderate and I could have gone another 3-5 years, however with the two blockages requiring bypass surgery I opted for the aoritc valve at the same time. Best of luck. gord

    Anniversary

On March 29, 2011 it will be one year since surgery. I had to cancel a Carribean Cruise last year because of my condition, but this year I will be cruising on Celebrity's Equinox on the first Anniversary of my surgery. The sternum has pretty well healed now, however I still cough up phlegm...

    AVR selection

I doubt that my comments can be of much help but I had a tissue (bovine) aortic valve replacement at 69 some 9 mos ago, along with a double bypass. I am doing fine and although the valve will likely only last 10-15 yrs.; the future medical advances in this area will likely result in...

Why did you choose a tissue valve?

It has now been 5 mos since my bovine aortic valve was replaced along with a double bypass. I am now 69 and feeling better. I have changed my diet, quit smoking and cycle 15-20 kms 3 time per week. I need to exercise more and intend to do so. I am hoping my tissue valve lasts for 15 years...

    8 weeks post-op rib pain

Chest Pain Chest Pain I had pain on my right side/ribs which was directly under my right breast, I asked the surgeon and he stated that it could be some internal bruising. I have since learned that they also took an artery from the right side of my chest for one of the bypasses and perhaps...

    Chest and abdominal pain

I also experience some chest pain under my right breast. My physiotherapist told me it was likely as a result of an artery they removed from there for one of the bypasses. When I cough I still have some pain, but it is improving. Gord

    4 weeks ago today :)

Donna I am 13 weeks post op from an aortic valve replacement (bovine) and a double bypass and in hospital for 5 days. I find my appetite has increased since the surgery but I am now eating healthy foods and cutting down on salt intake. I started driving at 11 weeks and like you I now take a nap...

    Chest and abdominal pain

Heartman I am now 13 weeks post op and still have some minor chest pain at the sternum. The severe chest pain diminished around the 10 week mark, although I had some pain behind my right breast, this has also gone now. A friend of mine is 5.5 months post op and still has chest pain along with...

    What could have happened?

John - You are braver than I am. seven days postop, I walked twice around the neighbourhood, othere than the weather being a little cool and windy, it went well. However I have not walked since, other than from one end of the house to the other for 10 minutes, twice per day. I do plan to get...

    Finally out of hospital.

Had my surgery on monday and returned home yesterday. New valve and a couple of bypasses. I was in the OR for 8 hrs as there was an issue with my blood in the heart lung machine, which was too thin - this was found after I had been closed up. They gave me two pints of blood as I needed the...

    4 more days and counting

You should also check out some of the videos on Google. There are couple where they show a valve replacement. I guess I was a little negligent in asking questions of my surgeon as I am not sure if I am getting a valve replacement or a repair. The fact that he did discuss tissue or mechanical...
