Still struggling cardio wise running, etc. 2.8 years after Aortic Valve replacement

Hi Midlife crisis. I had a new pig tissue valve in 2011 (71 age) I was a top Australian Masters distance runner. I still did 66min for 10km at 77age! (2017) I found I was minutes slower per 1km than before my operation. I was told it is because I'm on 'statins' for high cholesterol ! They give...

    Tissue Regrets??

Hi All. I was a top masters runner in 2011 (distance)(age71), I had a new tissue (pig) aortic valve done. Since, I've ran hundreds of races up to 10km, and in 3 weeks doing 11'5km run of half marathon in Sydney (age 79 ) My valve seems as good as when it was put in. I expect my next valve will...

A short video of a talk I gave on how to (literally) open your heart

I was not very impressed by the talk, as I thought anyone 'waiting' for the operation would be 'scared to death' watching it! I do understand the situation, as I had a new tissue aorta valve in 2011 at 71 age.

    Surgery delay after pre-op testing?

Hi woulde I find it mind-boggling that you were out in 3 days! I must admit I was very crook when I had my 'tissue valve'. I was 71 age, and struggled out in 9 days! I wish you all the best for the future. I am training up for a half marathon in May. See Ya Brian

    2 years and frustrated.

Hi epstns (Steve) Yes, you could be right, as I have told sooo... many people about changing my style! Got a bad back at present, but when better, will keep training for the 'Metronics 10 mile Global Heroes run in America next year. (if selected) Keep well Brian

Is 74 Too Old For A Mechanical Valve?

Hi itsme2 I had my tissue valve at 71age. Now 4 years on, I am running most days - training for half marathon! I only take half aspirin, and tablet for my cholesterol. What many of the other people say ... makes sense, but for me, I didn't want to be on warfarin! Good Luck Brian

HI epstns There is no need to POUND the pavement. If you change your style to shorter steps, land under centre of gravity, lean slightly forward and land on 'ball' of foot, you will glide over the terrain! I think I mentioned this before to you on perhaps another site? I was crippled in both...

Hi AmyBL Congratulations to your son for running a 'marathon', a great accomplishment! I remember my first one - I couldn't even lie down after the event, as my legs were so sore! I had a terrible time for the next week, for being a 'postman' I couldn't bend down to put the mail in the boxes...

    Palpitations.

Hi . Like W,CARTER, Ive had irregular heart beats most of my life. Since op (aorta valve 2011) I still get them! My cardiologist is a triathlete, and told me to go onto 'Magnesium MIN' 500mg twice a day. I am 75 age, and have ran dozens of races since my op! I have just accepted the situation...
